The Marksman and Engineer Classes

Hello, I created the Runeterra: Marksman (5e Class) and the Runeterra: Engineer (5e Class) and I noticed you put them in the "unfinished" section. I respect that you believe they need more work, but I am fresh out of ideas on what to give them and they're still usable in D&D. If you have any ideas, let me know. --Aldwynadain (talk) 07:54, 2 February 2016 (MST)

It's not much fun to level up and not receive a feature or spell slot. Marksman you could, for example, move Rapid Fire to 15th level, maybe Keen Eyes to 7th or 10th. If you need ideas for features, ask yourself if the classes have a mix of combat, exploration and interaction options. Marasmusine (talk) 08:35, 2 February 2016 (MST)
The pages now do not flag up that there are empty levels that need filling. Please consider restoring the stub template as that will increase the chances of someone else filling the blanks. Marasmusine (talk) 08:38, 2 February 2016 (MST)

Revised hit dice for {{5e Class Features}}

Once upon a time, classes only ever received a single hit die per level. For the purposes of automatically calculating hp per level, I petitioned to change the 5e class template to just use the hit die size (e.g. 8) instead of the full notation (e.g. 1d8). Then WotC released 5 levels of a variant ranger which instead gained 2d6 Hit Dice per level. I have now rewritten the entire Hit Points section of the template to support hit dice both as they are now (e.g. 6, 8, 10, 12) and also in full notation (e.g. 1d6, 1d8, 1d10, 1d12, 2d6). Since the template is locked to non-Administrators, I request that you alter the Hit Points section to the following:

====Hit Points====
{{#if:{{{hd|}}}|'''Hit Dice:''' {{#if:{{#pos:{{{hd}}}|d}}|{{{hd}}}|1d{{{hd}}}}} per {{{name}}} level<br />
'''Hit Points at 1st Level:''' {{#if:{{#pos:{{{hd}}}|d}}|{{#expr:{{#sub:{{{hd}}}|0|1}}*{{#sub:{{{hd}}}|2}}|{{{hd}}}}}}} + Constitution modifier<br />
'''Hit Points at Higher Levels:''' {{#if:{{#pos:{{{hd}}}|d}}|{{{hd}}}|1d{{{hd}}}}} (or {{#if:{{#pos:{{{hd}}}|d}}|{{#expr:ceil({{#sub:{{{hd}}}|0|1}}*({{#sub:{{{hd}}}|2}}/2+0.5))}}|{{#expr:ceil({{{hd}}}/2+0.5)}}}}) + Constitution modifier per {{{name}}} level after 1st<!--
-->|<strong class="error">Template error: set {{{hd}}} parameter to Hit Dice per level, e.g. 1d10</strong>}}

I know it's ugly, but it totally works. Thanks in advance :) —Proton[talk] 02:40, 4 February 2016 (MST)

Hah hah, WoTC, okay. I've popped your code in, I think there's an error, I haven't got time to look at it now so I've unlocked the page if you want to fiddle with it. Marasmusine (talk) 04:02, 4 February 2016 (MST)
It looks like an error, but the purpose there is to draw attention to when the {{{hd}}} parameter is missing, because it's the basis for the entire section. So if someone goes to make a class and forgets to put in hit dice, it will be very obvious what needs to be entered in this way. —Proton[talk] 04:43, 4 February 2016 (MST)

Help with my race

Im the proud creator of the Aran-iod, but i need help to fully complete it

What kind of help do you need? If you need me to do significant rewrites, I ask for a small paypal donation per User:Marasmusine#Need a rewrite? (£1 or $1.40) Marasmusine (talk) 01:49, 13 February 2016 (MST)

I dont like the idea to pay for someone to type my stuff, I was actually thinking what languages would they know besides Common

It's your race, what do you want them to know? Personally I would just leave it at Common, there's no indication they have a link with a specific race. Marasmusine (talk) 08:09, 13 February 2016 (MST)

Or to know common, and the native language that your creator knows? yeah I like that --Vex Paladin (talk) 12:22, 13 February 2016 (MST)

I was wondering if you could look at my Loxodon race, see if I have done anything wrong. This is my first race on the page, and as such there are things I don't know how to do, like adding pictures. Whenever you have time is nice, and I would like to do the work on this on my own, but I need some outside eyes. Thank you for whatever you have time for, THEgassner (talk) 20:18, 4 April 2016 (MDT)

Was hoping for an opinion

Hi Marasmusine was wondering what you meant i should change on the ring of strong technique? or should i just try to make it sound better? Also i changed a few things in the Blood Elf (the Accursed Fate) 5e Subrace [1] could you please have a look and tell me if that was the problem.

I have also made added to and changed my 5e Consumer class please have a look if you get the chance and let me know what you think. [2]

And lastly thanks for the work your doing on the site might, I just be a guy who uses it every now and then but still much appreciative of it Vladius (talk) 13:22, 16 February 2016 (EST)

Hi Vladius, I've done the rewrite on Ring of Strong Technique (5e Equipment) for you. I've limited the bonus to damage rolls only: ability score modifier does not scale to a permanent attack roll bonus. I'll look at the other pages next. Marasmusine (talk) 02:57, 16 February 2016 (MST)
Hi Marasmusine, I've read your advice for everything, thank you for that, ill start revising and fixing the issues when i can. When i have i'll ask if you could have another look, if that's OK, only really started making stuff for dnd recently so your input is really appreciated. I'll let you know when in a couple of days. Vladius (talk) 8:36, 17 February 2016 (EST)

Images

I found the images after searching "Torstan's100pxTiles". If these are not able to be posted here I apologize now. Sure thing, could you get me the exact link so I can make sure to use the right one. Is there any way to just delete these pictures, I've decided to make my own map tile art and upload that.

The list of images you uploaded is at Special:Contributions/Fumbleduck - just edit it page and copy-paste the line I put on your talk page, thanks. Marasmusine (talk) 12:36, 1 March 2016 (MST)
Yes, I'll delete the images, thanks for letting me know. Marasmusine (talk) 09:11, 3 March 2016 (MST)

A Lawgivers Solem Thanks

Ahoy Marasmusine. Its me, BDconrad. I'm the guy that made the class, Lawgiver. Thanks for telling me about all the thing I did wrong, this is my first class and i appreciate the help. I know you must get this message all the time, but thanks. I hope to work with you in the future in completing the Lawgiver Class. Thnaks -BDconrad

The best advice I can give is for you to read the classes in the PHB and take note of how things are worded. Marasmusine (talk) 16:25, 5 March 2016 (MST)

Template Creation

Hello, Marasmusine. First off, let me apologize if this is the wrong place to be asking this question. I searched the wiki, but I couldn't find anything about how to create a template. Most of what came up on the search was just various classes and other information pages, but nothing giving the information about how to create a template. I was wanting to create a template type for the Swordmage, Variant 2 (3.5e Class)'s Incantations, but I didn't want to use the Spell template, as they're not quite the same. Could you help me set up a template for them or teach me how to do so?--Sage of Souls (talk) 11:19, 6 March 2016 (MST)

I'll set up a basic template for you. BRB. Marasmusine (talk) 12:17, 6 March 2016 (MST)
Okay, Template:3.5e Variant Incantation is a template in its most basic form. Go to that page and press "edit" so you can see its anatomy. As you can see, it's literally just what you want to have appear on the screen, and the bits in triple curly braces are the field names. I've also included categories, they get transcluded too, so you don't have to keep putting them on your incantation pages.
Now over to Powerful Strike, I've implemented the template, hit edit so you can see what I've done.
One thing I need to do is add an "include only" tag around the categories in the template, so that the template itself doesn't actually appear in those categories.
Another thing that needs doing is adding identifiers to your page titles. It should be "Powerful Strike (3.5e Incantation)". Marasmusine (talk) 12:25, 6 March 2016 (MST)
Thank you very much for doing that for me. I'll be sure to use that. As for editing the page titles, how do I go about doing that? Hitting "Edit" doesn't allow me to do that.--Sage of Souls (talk) 12:30, 6 March 2016 (MST)
Edit: Actually, is it ok if I just create the new pages and just have the current ones deleted? I'd like to remove the "Swordmage 1" category, anyway. If not, I understand and will make sure to be more aware of what I want in the future.--Sage of Souls (talk) 13:09, 6 March 2016 (MST)
I've got the template so that it adds the page to a category generated from the class and level fields, so that's easily adjusted. Renaming a page is done with the "move" tab at the top of the screen, it's possible you don't have that yet, in which case you can go ahead and make new pages instead. Marasmusine (talk) 15:24, 6 March 2016 (MST)
Ah, ok. I can do that, then. Thanks again. I'm going to have to wait until I get back to my desktop to do so, though, or for Blue Dragon to grant me an exemption, as my laptop seems to be unable to create new pages.--Sage of Souls (talk) 15:40, 6 March 2016 (MST)

General thanks...

Just wanted to say thanks for the help categorizing pages I made. I really think we can unite all these versions. There's no reason for the complexity. Just as the Earth compresses all the noise into diamonds, we can churn all these versions into a complete system, capable of navigating other worlds to building a jet airplane if players actually took the time to make fill in all the gaps necessary to hold it all.

Also this thread is for anyone else who wants to thank the maintainer without created YET ANOTHER THREAD to say it. Cheers! 96.47.109.73 12:30, 6 March 2016 (MST)

Issue 4

Hi Marasmusine, I almost finished the Valkyrie (5e Creature); however, it is little rough around the edges. Therefore, I was hoping for you to see it, perhaps you can see something wrong. Azernath (talk) 20:06, 9 March 2016 (MST)

I'll look at it ASAP Marasmusine (talk) 00:29, 10 March 2016 (MST)
Sorry for the delay. I have read it and can think of a few changes (but need to check for examples in the MM to see how to do it). I'm obsessively working on another project at the moment, so D&D stuff is on hold. Marasmusine (talk) 03:00, 13 March 2016 (MDT)
Sorry again for the delay. Marasmusine (talk) 14:17, 22 March 2016 (MDT)

Something I cant figure out

Ive been trying to creat a deity (Vowlf https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Vowlf_(5e_Deity) ) but I cant seem to figure out how to get the rank to show up on the page at all. How do I go about doing this or does the rank just now show on the page? Also thank you for getting my deities page set up properly. I didnt know why text kept appearing next the the symbol no matter how I did it. Thank you.

Fixed! Marasmusine (talk) 00:29, 10 March 2016 (MST)

Phalanx Homebrew

Hey I just wanted to say thank you for your review of my homebrew! It is extremely helpful and has pointed out my severe naïveté to the rules of the new 5e D&D for which this class is intended. As you noted some of the issues I have seem to be that the class is made for 3.5 (which was the last time I had actually played until recently starting a 5e campaign). I will go back and attempt to fix and update my homebrew to be 5e copacetic. Thanks again for all your help and I hope you take a look at the updates as I work on them! Keep up the good work.

-Bobby

Let me know when it's ready for another review. Read the 5e PHB from cover to cover :) Marasmusine (talk) 16:36, 14 March 2016 (MDT)

How to get class on 5e Homebrew class list

So you fixed up my (class) page a while ago, and I'm just wondering how pages get on the official list of completed homebrew pages for example my class https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Spirit_Walker_(5e_Race)#Spirit_Walker ? I could've find it in any of the uncompleted listings/taggings or anything like that under those type of headings so I was wondering does my class just float around in cyberspace with no category? How does one get a category? Thanks for the help so far though. I feel like my page is pretty finished.

The categories were accidentally removed at this early edit. I've added them back and you should see it listed at 5e Races. Marasmusine (talk) 14:16, 22 March 2016 (MDT)

Transferring & Copying The Templates, Formats and Pages for Offline Private Use

I am R of T and would like to confirm the method for saving a particular page for offline use. I ask for G of T in his absence. I thought it would be wise to ask since it seems they like this public venue on occasion rather their own publications of PDFs. As for the why they have chosen this format, I can only suspect for their friends abroad. Live Long and Prosper well in Peace.

You can either copy-and-paste the contents of the edit page (which is raw text), or save the whole web page using whatever method your web browser gives you (this will usually be right-clicking anywhere on the page and selecting "save page as" Marasmusine (talk) 02:39, 12 April 2016 (MDT)

3.5e Items?

Why do you have so few 3.5e Articles? --Redrum 13:50, 16 April 2016 (MDT)

I started to transcribe stuff from my 3rd edition box folder when I first started here, but then just lost interest. I should at least upload the weapon skill system from my Three Kingdoms campaign, eh? Marasmusine (talk) 17:03, 16 April 2016 (MDT)
That sounds interesting. --Redrum 12:38, 23 April 2016 (MDT)

Aliens-Gray/Grey

http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Aliens-Gray/Grey_(5e_Race)/Rewrite

As noted I like this race as well as the original. I haven't noticed any recent changes or I have failed my perception checks.

"Q" of TierArea (talk) 14:04, 20 April 2016 (MDT)

Yeah, sorry, I ought to get back to it, I'm easily distracted. Marasmusine (talk) 14:12, 20 April 2016 (MDT)

G of TierArea (talk) 17:36, 28 April 2016 (MDT) is it done? What else does it need now?

Sorry, not finished yet, will aim to do something on it today. Marasmusine (talk) 02:08, 29 April 2016 (MDT)

G of TierArea (talk) 08:50, 29 April 2016 (MDT) No worries man, I bet your a working man in some aspect, like most of us on this planet, retired, volunteered or otherwise. No need to apologize for being real.

I like the way its shaping up, and the waiting builds anticipation and appreciation. I am not saying make it a habit lol, just use that when it seems necessary.

LOL I think my peers give me too much credit sometimes, and sometimes not enough. What your doing here with the Aliens-Gray/Grey_(5e_Race)/Rewrite is quite nice, in my opinion. I do wish I could be of more value, however contending with local variances does put a strain on my focus.

Again I appreciate your work.

4th Edition Assistance For Marasmusine

http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Talk:Djinn_(4e_Race)

I hope this helps some.

I am not sure on what specific help you need on the other 4th E items in waiting.
I'm pretty much left 4e behind, I don't look at those pages much anymore. Marasmusine (talk) 16:03, 25 April 2016 (MDT)
4th Edition you say? I'm still (if slowly) working on getting the entire 4e section of the dandwiki up to snuff, So whatever is up with the 4e I can help :) --Aitharious (talk) 16:06, 26 April 2016 (MDT)
Great, I put you in charge of the 4e dept. :) Marasmusine (talk) 17:00, 26 April 2016 (MDT)

GTierArea (talk) 10:52, 28 April 2016 (MDT) Thanks for the Reply. I was personally trying to assist, when I had those moments to do so. I am glad everything is working out.
I welcome any help if your willing to work with me on the 4e section of the wiki. --Aitharious (talk) 18:23, 28 April 2016 (MDT)

G of TierArea (talk) 22:22, 28 April 2016 (MDT) yes that will be fine. I am good at creative solutions, story and general science's. I know nothing of 4th edition, because I was working 22hs a day when it came out, and I had no time. military and all that. I will do my best to listen and learn.

Geomancer for my Kor

Hello Marasmusine! First of all, I'd like to thank you for all your feedback on my works.

Now, I'm currently working on my Kor race, and I was thinking about giving it a Stoneforge Mystic paragon path that requires being a geomancer, a class variant that you made.

Would that be okay? And if it is, do you have any suggestions regarding where to go with it?

Thank you! --PokeLinkEs (talk) 04:05, 30 April 2016 (MDT)

The main thing is that the only unique thing about the geomancer is the Staff of Grounding, so the path should have something to do with that. Marasmusine (talk) 04:56, 30 April 2016 (MDT)

Cease and Desist

Stop harassing people. Its called Homebrew for a reason. You break your own rules by harassing individuals. We are reporting you. We have had enough. WE and OTHERS have made it abundantly clear that its called homebrew for a reason. It is not up to you what the DM allows or don't. You constantly have tried to force your opinion upon our content and demand it fit 5e rules, making the point everything needs to fit to official rules, when it is clearly...homebrew. You have ignored disclaimers, and repeated request to stop. This is willful harassment. Your intentions may be good, your methods need to be re-evaluated.

We are not the only ones who have complained about this. We have read several comments on this. Enough is Enough, for the sake of many. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TierArea (talkcontribs) . Please sign your posts.

I actually enjoy Marasmusine's contributions. I understand why you are upset, but to put your content here means you feel it is balanced enough for other players to use.
You are correct that Marasmusine is not the person who should be telling you what your DM will and won't allow, but it would be nice to have content properly balanced so that the content here is suplamentary not a replacement for published content because it's op and this punishes the other players for not using homebrew content.
I think there should be a second table of unconfirmed balance for content that is finished but may be under or over powered. This way they don't need to be in the in unfinished section but also not mixed in with the balanced content.--Zero1323 (talk) 16:01, 16 May 2016 (MDT)
Hey, escalating any disagreement you've got isn't going to help. It's explicitly the job of our community to establish some margin of balance, quality and relevance to the rules; and doing so is not harassment. As long-time users, Marasmusine, myself, and others do a whole lot of this stuff pretty promptly, and it can come across harsh sometimes. If you've got a real disagreement over any specific edits that you can't resolve civilly with Marasmusine, or a major issue of any kind, feel free to raise it up with another admin (such as Myself or Green Dragon), even right now if you want. I see you've done this already - And so coming onto someone's talk page simply to accuse them of acting incompetently isn't constructive. Please don't do it. --SgtLion (talk) 16:03, 16 May 2016 (MDT)

TierArea, you need to tell me what edit you are talking about. I will guess that you are talking about the message I put at Arachnomorpha(5e Race) which was to say: This page does not use the rules for 5th edition D&D, but has been put in the 5e section. It either needs to be rewritten to use the 5e ruleset, or moved elsewhere (your userspace, the Other category, wherever).

The Arachnomorpha page, like all your other contributions, are not 5th edition homebrew, they are using some other gaming system. You are using some kind of freeform or systemless method with no internal consistency. I have been extremely generous with the way I have dealt with your pages. Normally I would propose this kind of stuff for deletion straight away. But instead I made suggestions for revisions that use the actual 5e rules; I added messages to inform readers that balancing would be required to use them in regular games; I conferred with the site owner on how to deal with your disclaimers; I removed the pages that you requested be removed when I told you about our copyleft license (except for the ones I had worked on); I was super-generous and suggested that Arachnomorpha be moved to another area when I could have torn into it. Basically I have gone out of my way to keep your ideas in the wiki whilst also maintaining wiki standards. Marasmusine (talk) 17:31, 16 May 2016 (MDT)

I dont know how to address everyone here so i am going to do my best. (Dam type O it almost said Undress. LMAO)

  • Tierarea: I get that your upset especially when you went really out of your way to get things confirmed. Your work, your baby, your game, i played some of the characters...not that hard to figure out...i get it i get it. I am trying to be unbiased, but i cant be...cause i see where your coming from and it shouldnt be that big of an issue since it home brew and alot of dms change rules and alter and tweak things. Hell so did I. I was tinkering with the thaco in 1sted thing to make it like 5the way before the 2nde ever came out...it worked well i just occasionally got lost on the details lol. I didnt find your stuff too unbalanced for the beast critters because the beast critters will always be more op than most common races in general, as they are specialized...like alot of your races...and i think thats what put people off...like i said before...and i know you ant d general,we already talked bout that. You have ways of making custom intergrated characters for almost anything...i dont even know how you do it...but you do...it works and your game is unbiased...i dont know how it works it just does...and i think...that might be what people dont understand...i cant explain it, but i think its just way over peoples head or too advanced or too much out of the box or something. I get it, i aint calling it difficult...i am just saying its different...and i appreciate your work...its kinda awesome that you can take anything and make it work...its like gurps...sorta...just has more balance and unbiased thing. I bet if all these people played the game they would get it too...eventually...its ...it is what it is... by the way i tried to get people to review the work i was working on for you...but no one would, for what ever reason...i was trying to make a legit race like you requested out of what you gave me...just no one was here to help get that done. I asked and waited...just no one was around for whatever...it was like a christmas holiday or something. Anyway man, i get ya.
  • Zero1323: I agree there needs to be another banner or something. I disagree with the idea that it punishes other players. Some players dont give a rats tar tar. I understood his/their point on the race thing and it wasnt that hard to put on paper and make it work...some where a great idea. Others i never got to use...
  • SgtLion Constructive or not, i understand, because i have read and heard about similar issues, and read the difference of how interacted with them...erm T person vs me. He hasnt jumped all over my arse nor kept doing stuff like putting the balance blah on my page like he did with t person...so it does seem a little...one sided.

(boy this is tiring LOL)

  • Marasmusine I reiterate, it wasnt that hard to figure out what they meant. I am using one of their races, just a little modified by the dm. Big deal it worked out just fine. I never thought it was a big issue, because for me it didnt take any real brain power to figure out what they meant, the dm got it too so i know it aint just us able to figure it out, there must be others too. As for generious, i cant say, as i would not have gone about it the way you did. You are a bit harsh at times more than you need to be. I know they were trying to have fun and it was like a weasel nipping at their heals. That part i get, even a weasel has been know to take down a full grown elk or make bears run away. Its the same kind of thing...in a way. All i know is that you have been helpful with me, and you hammerd the hell out of them....maybe its because they had so much at once...i dont know. maybe its bad timing, i dont know, i aint god who is supposed to know everything. I think we all need to take a step back and chill out. The bottom line no body likes thier stuff being jacked with...and if it seemed like that to them maybe... they needed some extra clarification. I aint jesus i aint no grand counceler. It seems to me...there was communication gaps, when you were helpful to them and then the next seconed...giving them the what for....i read some of the stuff...i started to wonder if there were two of you or something...maybe you had a bad day or something...i dont know. I know the way they talk back and forth can be...intimidating...especially when they get into sciences and such...anyway...i think it shouldnt be a big deal and everyone needs to take a step back and chill, we dont need to make mondays, worse than they are right? LOL ugh it really is the monday curse aint it? LOL

Have a good night.

Much love everyone.

McAlester Gamerz Customer (talk) 20:43, 16 May 2016 (MDT)

Uh... not an administrator or involved in the above situation, but wtf is this insanity? If content does not conform to the core rules, it must reference or contain explanation of a variant rule to justify the deviation with context for the purposes of practical implementation. Without such, every DM observing the content would likely have VASTLY different interpretations, and thus incompatible applications. With that in mind, content which does not adhere to the core rules or have an existing variant rule to justify it is incompatible with any game other than the one it was used in- you can't take a character from one table to another. Inter-table compatibility is a cornerstone of D&D content design, even from the earliest editions, and is a valid standard for measuring completeness, mechanical viability, and even balance to a certain extent. A level 5 dwarven ranger works the same at every table he goes to, within the limits of any table-rules imposed by the individual DMs. This is different from using the rules in unintended or incongruous ways- we are talking about content that explicitly makes reference to rules without context or source, or fails to satisfy basic requirements of the core rules. Proclaiming that something is "homebrew" does not exempt it from adhering to the basic structure of the game it was made for! This is NOT Calvinball! This is not abstract role play! This is a structured game. We have decades of game design theory and D&D design philosophy to rely on here. The developers themselves have gone to great lengths to give clear guidelines on how to create just about any type of content for the game, and even how to alter the core mechanics of the game in a clear and functional way. I don't understand why this subject is contentious. --Kydo (talk) 18:13, 26 May 2016 (MDT)

For reference, the kind of material I was trying to deal with is stuff like Arachnomorpha(5e Race), which has gems such as "Duel/Multi Attack. They gain these feats/taits automatically as they learn to hunt." - my asking that these pages make sense (without even looking at balance) is what triggered accusations that I was harrasing the OP.
I would appreciate it if you or someone else could look at what's left of TierArea's contributions and add maintenance templates as appropriate, so there's some independent assessment. Marasmusine (talk) 00:28, 27 May 2016 (MDT)
Thanks for your help Kydo. Marasmusine (talk) 07:41, 27 May 2016 (MDT)
Uh... OK... I mean, it's nice that a few messed up pages got highlighted and tweaked, but that was exhausting, and there's a ton of content on this wiki that's just as jumbled, if not moreso. Most of it never gets noticed, and goes without comment for months. Sure, this stuff was a mess, and I'm not a fan of the OP, but why single it out? --Kydo (talk) 05:55, 28 May 2016 (MDT)
I gave these contributions the same treatment I give to any page I see during newpage patrol. It became "singled out" when the OP repeatedly removed maintenance templates from those pages, became very resistant to the content being altered, and made complaints. (There are normally two reactions when I critically appraise a page: the OP engages with me to improve it, or you never hear from the OP again.) Marasmusine (talk) 06:03, 28 May 2016 (MDT)
Yes, it is exhausting. Marasmusine (talk) 06:04, 28 May 2016 (MDT)

Class Summaries not showing up

Hey Mara, thank you for the help with the class pages--I made the changes you suggested to the Wrestler, but for some reason I am still having an issue getting the shortened "class summaries" to appear on the 5e homebrew class page. The same thing happened to me with the "Witch Doctor" class, and though my entries all get saved in the history, none of them seem to show up next to the classes on the homebrew class list. Do you know how to get that working? Appreciated =)

I added some summary text for Wrestler (5e Class) and seems to be appearing okay at 5e Classes. Marasmusine (talk) 11:52, 14 May 2016 (MDT)

Shadow Knight (5e Class)

Marasmusine,

I saw your critiques of another users modifications to Shadow_Knight_(5e_Class) and I wished to try and salvage what had become an overpowered and unbalanced mess. I would love your critique and input on what I've attempted to do with my first foray into the D&DWiki world.

DMG

I just learned about the whole Dungeon Masters Guild thing going on. It's pretty exciting, but I'm concerned about how it and this wiki will interact. It could potentially allow people to claim creative copyright over vaguely original ideas which are not part of the OGL/SRD. For instance, some guy comes up with a specific and unique design for a Dragon Rider class in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, makes his own art and everything, publishes it, then claims the idea of a "Dragon Rider" 5th edition class, by name, as his copyright. This would not prevent people making references to his class, but it seems like it would give him authority to sue (Or at least legally harass) anyone who decided to make their own- such as this wiki. We've never had to worry about that much here, because not only was this wiki's content essentially public domain, but there was also no money in the content itself. Around half the DMs Guild's content is for-profit. Am I misunderstanding the limitations and freedoms of the current OGL? Or could this actually be a problem? --Kydo (talk) 21:14, 13 January 2016 (MST)

I'll have to look at the link later on, but I will say that you can't copyright an idea [3]. Marasmusine (talk) 00:34, 14 January 2016 (MST)
That seems to be the case. We can't be legally harrassed unless we copy the text that's under copyright. Or if the name "dragon rider" becomes trademarked, which is unlikely, but not an issue since we can rename things. Marasmusine (talk) 02:54, 14 January 2016 (MST)
That was my primary concern, that someone would claim copyright of "Dragon Rider, the 5th edition class" by name. Maybe I'm underestimating the community. Maybe they aren't the swarm of righteous jerks that the rest of the internet is. --Kydo (talk) 06:21, 14 January 2016 (MST)
Sorry to jump in all of a sudden but I believe that the Dandwiki actually has clauses against such things as is. If I remember correctly the Dand wiki states that it is a public domain and as such everything posted on here has to be of free access to the public. Because of this anything that is posted on the dandwiki must be of free access and anyone can use it so long as they aren't charging money for it. So for someone within the wiki community to steal something like the Dragon rider we could actually file a suit using the wiki it'self as proof. But if a corporation like Wizards of the coasts publishes something similar they could claim that it was independently developed and there wouldn't be much we could do about it. --Aitharious (talk) 06:57, 14 January 2016 (MST)
Dandwiki uses the GNU Free Doc License, it's not public domain. Anyone can publish works from dandwiki.com as long as they also release it under the GNU FDL (which is what I am doing with the dandwiki magazine, btw). And again, when it comes to copyright, its the specifics that matter (i.e. the actual text): if the text is the same no-one can claim it was "independently developed". Marasmusine (talk) 07:21, 14 January 2016 (MST)
I have a personal interest and some expertise in this legal domain. What you should do is agree to provide the content free of liens to the domain owned by D&D/WotC, with the friendly condition that they give you named credit for using your work and discounted to free copy of any work that uses your effort (depending on how much contribution you include). It's much like the Creative Commons, but it stays within a (shared) private domain. Trademarks apply to any use of their logos, fonts, color-combinations, and style-sheet templates. Copyright applies to the word itself (as if made by a typewriter). Without using their stylesheets, a homebrewed class probably won't get much traction as it is not integrated into the D&D universe without it (again: colors, logos, etc.).96.47.109.73 12:40, 6 March 2016 (MST)

I don't know any other way to ask.

Could you check out http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Talk:Tactician_%283.5e_Class%29 and give any advice you have? I'm relatively new to making classes but I think I did pretty well fixing this one up. --Capt Hooks (talk) 23:17, 14 August 2015 (MDT)

Made some huge changes since your last stop, if you or anyone else could give me a run down on your thoughts it would be great. --Capt Hooks (talk) 22:30, 21 August 2015 (MDT)

Yes also how do we figure out whats playably legit and what isnt? i would like to gather the legit stuff on my user page eventually. so yeah any help would be nice.

Tag your it. Still waiting to learn how to spot something legit. McAlester Gamerz Customer (talk) 13:53, 1 May 2016 (MDT)
I got your email, I don't have time tonight but I will look through them tomorrow. Just quickly though:
The Alien Grey is an example of something that won't work in your 5e game; the rewrite is my attempt to do something with it and I think that's fine to use now (although I was aiming to put a few more options in)
If you see a class that falls into any of the pitfalls at Class Do's and Don'ts (5e Guideline), it may need a partial rewrite. Marasmusine (talk) 16:03, 1 May 2016 (MDT)
That's a lot to remember. Not sure if my memory is that good. I will do my best. There are a lot of classes, that by name alone....are unattractive. That's why we created something, different.TierArea (talk) 16:25, 1 May 2016 (MDT)

Yes, as i had stated several times, evil campaign on Tuesdays. Yes i know, busy and distracted, i get that. I would say focus on helping pick out the legit races and classes, and that may please the DM. Granted they are not official, however similar to the general races and classes. I want to be the person who has the best characters and classes generally acceptable under one spot for easy access for all others who come after me. Thats the bottom line. 3.5e Items?

Why do you have so few 3.5e Articles? --Redrum 13:50, 16 April 2016 (MDT)

I started to transcribe stuff from my 3rd edition box folder when I first started here, but then just lost interest. I should at least upload the weapon skill system from my Three Kingdoms campaign, eh? Marasmusine (talk) 17:03, 16 April 2016 (MDT)
That sounds interesting. --Redrum 12:38, 23 April 2016 (MDT)

Aliens-Gray/Grey

I hope this helps some.

I am not sure on what specific help you need on the other 4th E items in waiting.
I'm pretty much left 4e behind, I don't look at those pages much anymore. Marasmusine (talk) 16:03, 25 April 2016 (MDT)
4th Edition you say? I'm still (if slowly) working on getting the entire 4e section of the dandwiki up to snuff, So whatever is up with the 4e I can help :) --Aitharious (talk) 16:06, 26 April 2016 (MDT)

Useless

Dear Marasmusine,

The removal of the "Useless" homebrew class was completely irrelevant. As a joke class, it was added in as a supplement to add humor into the game for players who wanted to just have fun, not to be used in most games. Please refrain from making such hasty and irrational decisions, or taking matters such as this too seriously.

The April Fools tag is not an excuse to make poorly written, unfunny, unusable material. There was nothing irrational about the proposal, and it absolutely was not hasty - I raised the issue of the infantile writing back on the 31st of January, I proposed the deletion on the 16th of April and waited a further two weeks before taking action. Marasmusine (talk) 02:07, 4 May 2016 (MDT)
The only thing i am going to 'contend' against is what I KNOW. Funny is, like others have said, 'perception based'. There are ALLOT of rude/crass jokes that 70% of the rest of the world think is funny, that i find sad, sick or disturbing. I find dry humor funny on occasions if the performer makes his performance checks. However repeated checks have diminishing results. So on etc.
I would also caution from using degrading descriptors as proof of facts. You dont want to be known for that alone and then people start taking you lightly when you do have a solid point. It like me, i hate to curse, but when i do, people pay attention, crap gtg, late for appointment LOL.McAlester Gamerz Customer (talk) 08:57, 4 May 2016 (MDT)
Humour is subjective, so I would ask that "joke" pages at least be well written and/or usable, then. I personally do not find "ha ha, -20 to ability scores" or "lol random thing" to be funny, but if it can be used in a game without disrupting it or becoming obnoxious after 30 minutes, and the page here reads well, that helps. Marasmusine (talk) 11:48, 4 May 2016 (MDT)
I concur, completely actually. I know some pages expect you to be able to keep up as they skip ahead with there bottom line point, its just not everyone can do that all the time. I get most of it, and some.....i wish i had the power to delete/block myself. Like too many demi-god, half demon oni....expletive. If they want all that singularity, significant, individualism ego thing then i say go play a pc game and mod the expletive out of it. Or make a specific purpose character thing. meh. I hope your having a good day man, i have another game to go to today. I am playing an Native/Tribal elven ranger(archer). I am sure people will get the point. Have fun man and keep up the good work. I look forward to you finished work on the alien thing. McAlester Gamerz Customer (talk) 12:50, 4 May 2016 (MDT)

5e masterwork

In 5e, are there rules for masterwork tools?--209.97.85.48 13:07, 7 May 2016 (MDT)

Hi, no there isn't, but it's a good question, is there a quick way of doing masterwork tools? Tools are on p. 154 of the PHB, as you can see, proficiency with a tool lets you add your proficiency bonus to certain tasks. We could say that a masterwork tool lets you add double your proficiency bonus instead. It's down to the DM if he wants masterwork tools to be purchasable (I would suggest increasing the cost by 1000 gp), personally I would give these tools a rarity and award them like magic items.
I will write this up as a at Masterwork Tools (5e Variant Rule), thanks! Marasmusine (talk) 15:24, 7 May 2016 (MDT)
I would have figured that the masterwork tools would grant you advantage on what you do and would cost 100 gp more than the regular tools. --Redrum 18:27, 25 May 2016 (MDT)
Advantage is circumstantial, and I'm not sure I would like a masterwork tools bonus to stack with an expertise-type bonus. Eitherway, the bonus is significant so should have a price that reflects this (I chose 1000 gp because that's the price of a telescope, and at low-levels it's something to save up for (rather than buy with your starting cash) Marasmusine (talk) 13:15, 26 May 2016 (MDT)

Why!?

Why did you delete the page with out even so much a response? With out even considering previous editions had such things? With out anything? Must have been a bad day for you? Makes me not want to participate because...the point seems that i would end up getting cut...Survival. Its things like this that possibly drive some away. I asked, i tried to make it better...and nah i am dont talking. I lost a friend last night and this...this is just crap timing.

Okay, I'm sorry for your loss, but I don't know which page you're talking about. Marasmusine (talk) 14:21, 8 May 2016 (MDT)
Mage Armor (I made notations that in previous versions, elven made armor was aloud like mage armor with minimum to no penelties, however getting it....either required alot of gold and some black market dealings or special favor from high elven courts...) Yeah just crap timming, as i am trying to go see my aunt (and things keep getting in the way for me to go.)that has the same; name, height, personalityish, issues etc....it hit a little too close to home.McAlester Gamerz Customer (talk) 14:30, 8 May 2016 (MDT)
I press a button and it's back, I will give it another week.
I'm not 100% sure what your proposal was, it seems to be to make it the same as +1 armor? And then the bit about elven enchanters doesn't quite mesh with the magic item rules.
Take some time to process your personal stuff and we can discuss it next week. Marasmusine (talk) 15:12, 8 May 2016 (MDT)

Thank you. All i was trying to do is 1)not let someones work go to waste, 2)Incorporate the elven mage like armor from the original editions, and make it legitimate, somehow like it was back then. Unfortunatly, i am now having a sevier allergie attack and my eyes feel like they are on fire, again. and i am writting out of respect and not leave you hanginging. not gong to try to fix type oos because too hard to see alrready and doing this with eyes closd from time to time. Masmusine, I saw on your page that you will format pages for a price, but, I do not want to pay and I would like to figure out how to do it. I'm new to this and really would like my Kuo-Toa race to be up on the wiki. -Yours truly, Icedragon516

Muqatil Stub

A few dead levels.
Where do you feel it needs work? Hedied4a11 (talk)

It needs a better feature spread. Off the top of my head I would say move Roof Runner to 7th level and Fated Survivalist to 11th level. That just leaves 13th, 15th and 17th level to think about.
Fated Survivalist is very overpowered. Advantage is supposed to be a circumstantial benefit. This class has it all the time on three different skills.
Healing Bond mentions "extended rest", Fleet Footed mentions "charge attack", and Holy Warrior mentions "elemental or shadow origin". These are all 4e terms not used in 5e.
"Specification" was probably supposed to say "Specialization"
"forgo five damage" should say "you take a -5 penalty to your damage roll". The push is 5 feet per five damage "sacrificed" but it only gives the option to take -5 damage.
I can't make head nor tail out of "Rune Time"
Unarmoured Defense. You don't add this value, it is your AC.
"opportunity attack", not "attack of opportunity" (which was the 3.5e term). Rather than say "If no dagger is equipped the reaction is canceled. " why not start with "If you are wielding a dagger then you can use your reaction to..."?
Incapatitate: enemies normally do not have "levels". "Incapacitated" is the name of a condition, so this should be changed. The feature is also cut off mid-way through a sentence.
Knock is not a cantrip. You can't make a non-cantrip spell into a cantrip.
In trance. Probably should only effect humanoids. A swarm of bats or a grey ooze probably would not care that she's dancing.
That's what I picked up on a first pass, there may be overall balance issues. Marasmusine (talk) 11:03, 13 May 2016 (MDT)
Cool thanks for the clarification I will work on it some more.Hedied4a11 (talk)

Another page I would love feed back on is my Geist race.

I don't know how to directly comment to you to quicken it, so this.

Hi, I'm someone who commented on the half-oni page and I wanted to bring up something that I felt is important. You felt that the ability to use two handed weapons one handed makes their damage become 2d4s. I can somewhat see the logic, but there are issues I feel with this conclusion. For one it makes at two handed weapons do the same damage, some originally were 2d6, some 1d12, and even 1d10. I feel that this makes some of the ones meant for higher damage versus having a higher base take more of a hit from this ability. The reason I'm putting this here, besides making it easier to bring it up, is that there are several other classes and races with the same ability. Having only one zeroed out to take this negative seems a tad unfair. So if we can come to an idea conclusion for this, that'd be great.

I don't know how to sign, so to keep it simple. I'm grimeagle4.

I'm not Marasmusine, but I keep an eye on goings-on. Would you mind naming the races you have seen with this trait please? I am working on a disclaimer template with pre-scripted labels, and I think this might be a good candidate for inclusion in that, if the math is indeed stable and balanced as you claim.
