Though Glass is not active on the wiki, he is very active on the wiki's Discord server. I feel he is a positive presence there, and that the position of chat moderator would fit him well. — Geodude Chatmod.png (talk | contribs | email)‎‎ . . 11:28, 8 December 2019 (MST)

Candidates Prelude
Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve D&D Wiki in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What chat moderator chores do you anticipate helping with?
A: Well, I am aware that there may be times when a new user is going to need to be verified for Discord use. I can help out with that.
2. What roles do you fulfill on Discord? For a channel between D&D Wiki and its Discord, what contributions are there with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A: My role? I'd like to think that I can help with some of the knowledge-wise duties of 5e, as I've always tried my best to answer questions and had been wise to get confirmation when I'm not entirely certain on something. On top of that, I've also found myself to be something akin to a non official storyteller, regaling tales of a tinkerous Engineer on one hand, and on the other tales of a struggling Dungeon Master. In that regard, learning both the character sheet as a player and the view of the game from the DM screen are both challenges in itself, and it's making me all the wiser in giving story advice and technical support.
3. Have you been in any conflicts on Discord in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? Has the conflict taken place between D&D Wiki and its Discord? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with similar conflicts in the future?
A: Honestly? It's not often that problems arise via Discord or the main Wiki. Sadly, I am unsure on how to answer that, and I do humbly apologize for it.

Discussion

  • It'll be nice to try something new. I will do my best. Glass (talk) 11:49, 8 December 2019 (MST)
  • Comment. How do you intend to create an active channel between D&D Wiki and D&D Wiki on Discord if you are only active on one of them? --Green Dragon (talk) 08:05, 9 December 2019 (MST)
I don’t understand this question, GD. Chat moderators are not admins. I’m not sure what you mean by “active channel” but I nominated Glass so that he can help police the Discord chat, not for any purpose based on the wiki proper. — Geodude Chatmod.png (talk | contribs | email)‎‎ . . 12:00, 9 December 2019 (MST)
Agreed, GD; while I may not be the best at the base Wiki (since I do pretty much all of it via mobile), I'm noticeably more active on Discord. With that in mind, I'll try to leave the more technical side of things to GD; don't want to accidentally break something.
A small interjection if I might, Geo. I think what GD means is a connection between the wiki and discord. So if one is only active on discord, they may not be so representative on the wiki, and vice versa. There is perhaps an expectation that the moderator have some presence on the wiki as well? Correct me if I am wrong in my interpretation. However I must agree with Geo a bit here. The moderator role is mainly something conceived for Discord, and not the wiki, no?--Yanied (talk) 18:24, 9 December 2019 (MST)
I'm not questioning the nomination.
Your right, Discord Moderators don't have an elevated role on D&D Wiki. This is not what I am talking about.
No, I'm specifically asking: How do you Glass, make it so just as easily as a user may ask you something on Discord, that they could reach you on D&D Wiki? How is your channel between D&D Wiki and D&D Wiki on Discord usable for users who may want to reach you on D&D Wiki, or vise-versa?
For example, if someone wants help with balancing a class, and they get help from you on Discord, would you extend your offer to them also onto D&D Wiki if they need it, and what is your channel between the two platforms like?
You don't even need a channel per the rules (other than the obvious usename and verification on Discord), but I personally want you to answer this question if you wouldn't mind. --Green Dragon (talk) 23:41, 9 December 2019 (MST)
I feel like channel is carrying multiple meanings. Are you able to use another word or words instead of channel? I believe I grasp what is being asked from the context, but "channel" isn't a normal word for the wiki and usually describes a "chat room" on discord.   ~BigShotFancyMan   talk   08:12, 10 December 2019 (MST)
Well, to answer GD, I don't know. But what I can certainly try is to start making my presence in the Wiki felt as much as on Discord. Now truthfully, this is going to start with an update to my profile on Wiki, and consistent checking of it. Glass (talk) 16:58, 10 December 2019 (MST)
It slipped my mind that Discord uses the word "channel" for different chat rooms. I meant it in it's generic usage, and you could switch it out above for "communication", "interface", or similar. Does this help you formulate your answer any further? --Green Dragon (talk) 09:30, 11 December 2019 (MST)

Support

  • Completely 110% without a doubt, in favor SpaceKat (talk) 11:41, 8 December 2019 (MST)
  • I have experienced much of Glass' story time (as have others undoubtedly). He does not seem to be the person to abuse privileges. And his presence is very much pronounced on the Discord. If for that and nothing else to keep the peace and administer discord roles, I say let him be moderator.--Yanied (talk) 18:24, 9 December 2019 (MST)
