Talk:Ring of Misfortune (5e Equipment)

I changed the Attunement to 'none.' A bad item shouldn't need Attunement, a player just wouldn't attune to it, avoiding the effects. --OwenLeaf (talk) 10:41, 27 November 2014 (MST)

In the spirit of cursed items, this should appear to be a beneficial item, such as, well, a Ring of Fortune. As usual, I am waiting to see what's in the DMG. Marasmusine (talk) 10:56, 27 November 2014 (MST)

Believe it or not i got the idea from a Jacky Chan cartoon i saw when i was a kid, it was about a cursed item that gave bad luck, so i said why not. Azernath (talk) 12:08, 27 November 2014 (MST)

I'm not sure how this ring is supposed to work? Once someone is wearing the ring, how often is bad luck supposed to happen? It says "almost every situation"... as in every encounter? If a DM uses the table and rolls a 10, what exactly is happening? Marasmusine (talk) 00:18, 28 November 2014 (MST)

It could be once every seasion or every turn the player have, you just never know when it hit you just like bad luck. if you have a better way then by all means go for it. Azernath (talk) 12:18, 28 November 2014 (MST)

It doesn't look like any of the entries in the table work very well, say, in the middle of a fight (8. I suddenly wake up near a tree?!). Best I can think of is have the player roll at the end of a long rest. But then, if they're in the middle of a dungeon a lot of these don't make sense. So, at the end of a long rest whilst travelling outdoors? I don't know. Marasmusine (talk) 15:16, 28 November 2014 (MST)
I think we should turn the d100 table into a list of suggestions, from which the DM could pick things appropriate to whatever situation the PC owner is in. --OwenLeaf (talk) 15:25, 28 November 2014 (MST)

I rather like the d100 but you have a good point that is why the list is just a suggestion and not a must do for the item. Azernath (talk) 20:25, 28 November 2014 (MST)

We know how cursed items work now, so I have rewritten this entry, I hope that it meets your approval. Marasmusine (talk) 08:24, 28 January 2015 (MST)

Perfect. Azernath (talk) 19:04, 28 January 2015 (MST)

I am unsure of how balanced this ring is. With only a minor increase to all saving throws, and being an uncommon item, these downsides are quite potent. Apocalyptias 13:46, 2 March 2018 (MST)

Apocalyptias, the ring isn't supposed to be balanced. It's a cursed item. It's meant to be bad for the player.--Benk207 (talk) 18:27, 9 May 2019 (MDT)
