[edit] Welcome to D&D Wiki!

Welcome!

Hello Tivanir and welcome to D&D Wiki. I hope you have been enjoying D&D Wiki and I hope you have been finding the information here useful. Before you start contributing it is recommended that you make sure your user preferences match your preferences.

Questions

If you have any questions about a specific page please ask it on that page's talk page. If you have a D&D-related question please ask it on DnD Discussions. Everything relating to D&D Wiki's administration can be found here. If your question does not fit into one of the above possibilities or you need to contact another user please use their talk page.

Formatting

Syntax can be very difficult, and if you need help a good place to start is Help:Editing on Wikipedia (or even their Introduction page). This will explain basic wiki formatting and should provide quite a few useful links that explain more specific areas of wiki formatting. Help pages also provide help in areas that have been decided as requiring additional explanation.

Community

A strong and welcoming community exists on D&D Wiki, and I am sure you will find it rather nice. To enable the community to function policies are in effect. Most importantly follow Wikipedia's guidelines on civility and etiquette when discussing anything and do not delete content. Also, to ensure people know who posted what, please sign your name after a post with four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the signature icon (Signature icon.png). This will automatically produce your name and the date. I hope you come to enjoy D&D Wiki and the community and welcome again, you are now a D&D Wikian. --Green Dragon (talk) 12:38, 20 May 2012 (MDT)

[edit] Deletion

Hi Tivanir, just want to thank you for reviewing some of the 3.5 articles and tagging for deletion where appropriate. When you add the deletion template, can you also put in a datestamp? This makes it easier for me to see which deletion proposals are two weeks old. The format is {{delete|~~~~~|Reason for deletion}} (the five tildes will datestamp it). Thanks! Marasmusine 01:28, 31 March 2012 (MDT)

Oh, nevermind, I can see you've been doing that with the more recent ones anyway :) Marasmusine 01:31, 31 March 2012 (MDT)

[edit] Bad self

Rock on with it. That is all.-- Irykyl 10:08, 2 April 2012 (MDT)

Just trying to clear out things that obviously aren't going to be finished right now, I don't like 5 billion unfinished articles it makes it look sloppy. Tivanir 10:10, 2 April 2012 (MDT)

Barnstar.png Barnstar
I give you this barnstar for busting your hump and cleaning up much of the forgotten articles. Thanks for improving the quality of D&D Wiki. -- Irykyl 12:35, 2 April 2012 (MDT)

I've been through a lot of your deletion nominations now, so came here to give you a "spring cleaning" barnstar, but I see Irykyl beat me to it :) Marasmusine 02:38, 18 April 2012 (MDT)

Thanks for the comment, though I think I may have been slightly over zealous with some of my marks. Next time I will probably spend a bit longer weighing some factors before marking things up, which will probably be when I move onto the prestige class section. I don't expect to have as many requests on that as people tend to have a clear option in mind for prestige classes. Tivanir 08:09, 18 April 2012 (MDT)

[edit] Class up for deletion

Hey i couldn't find another way of getting a hold of you so I'm posting here. I just wanted to let you know that i am attempting to fix up the Thunder Monk class and as you said its a big project but i wanted to give it a try. I am notifying you because you have proposed it for deletion. I just wanted to let you know that i am attempting to work on the class and that I would love a little advice and help on the class. I have already done a large amounts of edits on it and would love some feedback, Thanks. --Drole 01:18, 20 April 2012 (MDT)

Hey i was just wondering if you had gotten around to having a look at what ive done with the Thunder Monk yet, if not it would be great if you could soon and give me a little feed back on what ive got so far. thanks --Drole (talk) 03:03, 16 July 2012 (MDT)

[edit] Response

Don't know if you are tracking me responding to your question.-- Irykyl 11:16, 1 May 2012 (MDT)

I did and thanks I might put it in shortly. Tivanir 11:42, 1 May 2012 (MDT)
Also, if you could do me a favor and take a look at my campaign setting, or what I have so far, I would appreciate it. -- Irykyl 09:44, 2 May 2012 (MDT)
Will do it is the skekorne suppliment correct? Tivanir 09:51, 2 May 2012 (MDT)
Shekastkoré, but that's close enough. -- Irykyl 10:31, 2 May 2012 (MDT)
Thanks for the bit of editing. What did you think overall?-- Irykyl 08:35, 8 May 2012 (MDT)
Only got through part of it so far. Seems interesting though I will need to look through more of it to have a firm grasp of everything. Getting swamped with random projects that I need to complete for my player group so I will look at it when I have time. Tivanir (talk) 09:03, 8 May 2012 (MDT)

[edit] Artificer

Hi, Firestorms0 here, dont have an account yet, but this is a bit important as you left out a crucial Craft feat for the Artificer at lvl 11: Craft Contingent Spell, you can locate it in the Complete Arcane. Firestorms0

[edit] Spring cleaning again?

Hi Tivanir, welcome back, thank-you again for reviewing a lot of pages. Let me know if you think you can spare the time for some boring-but-necessary-and-repetitive maintenance :) No problem if you're not interested, keep doing what you're doing. Marasmusine (talk) 13:14, 7 March 2013 (MST)

Oh I am always ready for cleaning it up just my timing has gotten better in the last few months so I can dedicate a few hours here and there to help out. I am trawling my way through the 3.5 homebrew sections at the moment but let me know if anything is outstanding that needs immediate attention. Tivanir (talk) 11:12, 8 March 2013 (MST)
Sticking with 3.5e, all the magic item pages need editing to use Template:3.5e Magic Item, and each magic item list needs to use the dynamic list I created for User Magical Rings. I'll see if I can sort out the lists now, since that will make it easier to spot which items are missing the template.
Another 3.5e task is to empty LA Unknown Races, and most entries in LA 9+ Races are there because they are missing categories and/or the x0 template. Thank-you for any assistance in these areas. Marasmusine (talk) 00:01, 10 March 2013 (MST)
I will get started on them shortly. Most likely will start with the races, but we will see. Tivanir (talk) 10:36, 11 March 2013 (MDT)
LA unknown is complete (anything in there either needs merged, deleted or fixed up at this point.) I will work on the 9+ here in the next few days. Tivanir (talk) 09:19, 13 March 2013 (MDT)

[edit] Help

Hey Tivanir, why did you propose the page,Elenesti for deletion?

Most likely because there wasn't enough to complete and hadn't been worked on for a while. If you need it restored to work on it you can ask masamune for assistance and he can restore it. As a heads up anything over 3 months and not enough to complete will generally get nominated for deletion after a short period of time. -tivanir

[edit] Champion of the Ferine (3.5e Base Class)

Hello Tivanir,

You seem to be a well versed individual in the realm of 3.5e, and did make very reasonable points in the Tenken article, because of your expertise, I would like your opinion on a class of mine that I've been fine tuning for a while now. Seeing as you do your best to make reasonable counter points to the Tenken's level of power, I would like your assessment on the Champion of the Ferine as far as balance, oversight, functionality, etc. The appropriate meta article can be found here; [1]. I suggest viewing the meta page first to understand the general concept before delving into the page itself.

--Argent Fatalis (talk) 16:06, 4 April 2013 (MDT)
I will look at it as soon as I have some time. The quick question I need to ask is are you balancing it versus the Races of War or against standard 3.5e DnD? Tivanir (talk) 11:53, 5 April 2013 (MDT)
It is intended to be balanced in 3.5e standard (all books, most likely ignoring RoW) as a high end Tier 3 (nearly Tier 2) class. Other classes in this genre of power are the Beguiler, Dread Necromancer, Crusader, Bard, Swordsage, Binder (without access to the summon monster vestige), Wildshape Varient Ranger, Duskblade, Factotum, Warblade, Psychic Warrior; Tier 3 does their job exceptionally well, but certainly isn't capable of doing "everything" well. For example, Tier 1 classes are the Wizards, Clerics, Druids, Artificers, or classes which can easily break the game or solve most any issue provided they have even the smallest amount of time to prepare. Champion of the Ferine is notably a class I want people to stay in and not multi-class out of, hence why it scales as it does.
Thank you for the (impending) assistance, Tivanir.

[edit] Adminship

Welcome to Adminship. You are now part of "The Face" of D&D Wiki. You have more burden on yourself now that you are an admin because users will be looking at you for editing help, knowledge about pages, etc. Make sure to familiarize yourself with Meta Pages to help address this burden. I recommend you take a look at Special:ListGroupRights if you have not already. Some of the new feature's uses follow. You can now delete pages, protect pages, rollback edits, block users and IP's, edit every page, patrol edits, and do a couple more minor things.

  • Deleting pages is normally done through Category:Candidates for Deletion. Anything with a good reason to be deleted on that page should be deleted. Other times pages should be deleted is in the case of vandalism, spam, or even when someone makes a page and after a few edits they either blank the page or replace it with something like "Please delete this". If this page consisted of close to just the preload it is fine to just delete it.
  • Protecting pages has quite a few different times when it should be used. Pages should be protected according to the author's wishes (with Template:Locked Page added to the top of the page in question), in case of conflict (with Template:Temp Locked Page added to the top of the page in question), in case of OGC published materials (with Template:OGL Top added to the top of the page in question and Template:OGL Bottom added to the bottom), or finally if the page is a vital part of D&D Wiki's organization. Also, if it deals with D&D Wiki's organization the page needs to be protected. For Example 3.5e Homebrew is protected from all non-sysop edits whereas a different page like LA 0 Races is only protected from IP edits. No template needs to be added to pages if they are part of D&D Wiki's organization (even though some do exist like Template:Admin Locked Page)
  • Blocking a user or IP should be used with respect to policy. To block someone just click "block" (found on Recent Changes, the diff in question, the userpage, etc) and fill out the corresponding form. For a typical vandalism attack I normally block the user for two weeks. Certain things demand a longer block and others a shorter. No standards have been set for block lengths so use your best judgment.
  • Editing every page on D&D Wiki mostly means you can now edit the SRD and the MSRD. Feel free to edit them if inaccuracies are found. If interested further please look at the SRD ToDO List or the MSRD tasks; I am sure your help will be appreciated.

Now that you are an admin I would say more burden is placed on you, but I really hope you enjoy being an admin and I hope you decide to stay around on D&D Wiki for a while more to come. Welcome to Adminship. Again, you're now part of "The Face" of D&D Wiki. --Green Dragon 09:17, 28 February 2012 (MST)

Congratulations Tivanir! Now get to work! Marasmusine (talk) 00:21, 6 April 2013 (MDT)

[edit] Forest Thri-Kreen (3.5e Race)

I don't have the publication with the original thri-kreen in. Do you think you could compare them and change this to a "variant" page that just lists Salasay's changes, with whatever description he added? If the changes aren't significant then I'll leave the deletion to your discretion, thanks. Marasmusine (talk) 00:13, 7 April 2013 (MDT)

yes I can do that. It is in the expanded psionic hand book so I will look at it in a minute. Tivanir (talk) 07:41, 7 April 2013 (MDT)
deleted it per no actual difference from normal thri Kreen. Dropping enhancement bonuses to remove an LA isn't a mod and it had no original content beyond the habitat and color. Tivanir (talk) 14:09, 11 April 2013 (MDT)

[edit] New featured article.

Hi Tivanir, can you be on the lookout for a new featured article? I would suggest something non-4e and non-monster this time. I'm not great at judging 3.5e (I can spot a bad one, but not so good at spotting quality). Marasmusine (talk) 00:47, 18 April 2013 (MDT)

Will do. Also I have one up but I don't think anyone has looked at it yet for final tweaking. I will see if I can find something that will work for the FA. Tivanir (Speak to me) (talk) 06:43, 18 April 2013 (MDT)
Found one: Ascendant though it will need some tweaking to bring it to featured article status. I have outlined what I feel makes it not up to par (flavor and some mechanics) and will start bringing it inline with standard 3.5e shortly to make it good to go. Tivanir (Speak to me) (talk) 09:46, 18 April 2013 (MDT)
We should probably get some of the current nominees reviewedand either passed or failed. There are at least four that were nominated in 2008, and haven't been decied on yet. I would be willing to go through and look at the current 3.5e nominees and help tweak them to passing level. I will need help on my own Illusionary Weapons Master, but the rest of them i can help with. I deffinitly like the Ascendant, though, and if you think it should be a featured article, I would support it. I would just like to see nominees like the Gravity Warrior tweaked up to an acceptable level. --Salasay Δ 17:30, 21 April 2013 (MDT)
I will likely work on the other articles up for featured article once Ascendant is ready to go. Heading over to it now to do a little work. Tivanir (Speak to me) (talk) 10:48, 22 April 2013 (MDT)
Okay. I'll start looking at some of the current nominees myself. I commented on Ascendant about some improvements, just so you know.
On a (somewhat) related note, I was wondering; if a FA nominee gets too many opposed, or receives no interest about improving, does it ever get removed, or does it just stay on the nominee list? --Salasay Δ 15:06, 23 April 2013 (MDT)
if there are any opposes left that are valid concerns it gets delisted. If it isn't valid (aka I don't like it) the oppose is removed. In theory you only need a single support vote and green dragon normal throws his vote at the end to see if there is anything last minute that wasnt addressed. Tivanir (Speak to me) (talk) 20:04, 23 April 2013 (MDT)

[edit] Tome / Races of War Material

With regards making a template for tome material, one thing we can also do is to add the "Supplement" category to those pages so they are excluded from the normal lists (which will all have notcategory=Supplement by the time I've finished with them). Marasmusine (talk) 01:58, 13 May 2013 (MDT)
