Talk:Cleaver (5e Feat)

Cleave should not be considered to be to close to Great weapon master. The main reason being that GWM requires your bonus action to make the extra attack. In the case of a dual wielder they already us there bonus action to make an additional swing so they can't use GWM. The point of cleave inst to make an additional attack its suppose to be the continuation a swing after a successful kill into another enemy like its description says.

"You’ve learned to put the weight of a weapon to your advantage, letting its momentum empower your strikes." I'm pretty confident it was intended to be 5th Edition's version of cleave, but I understand your point. It does brings up some issues not necessarily with the feat itself, but how it combines with other feats. Say I have the Great Weapon Master feat as a Level 1 Human, then I get Cleave at 4th level. If I roll a natural 20 and knock someone out with my 4d6+14 critical hit damage, (Assuming +4 Strength modifier), then I can automatically get another critical hit at 4d6+14 damage. Then I can use my bonus action and make yet another attack. And at 5th level I can make one more attack for a total of 4 attacks. Granted, that's not often, but it might be problematic for balance.
On the other hand, this could be seen as a more balanced version of the Multi-Attacker (5e Feat). So for that reason, I'll go ahead and remove the needs balanced tag, and make some wording changes for clarity. --Carcabob (talk) 16:09, 12 November 2016 (MST)
A name change might be in order, as it has the same name and function as a variant rule from the DMG. SirSprinkles (talk) 17:09, 12 November 2016 (MST)
How about "Cleaver"? Carcabob (talk) 21:26, 12 November 2016 (MST)
Well that's the thing. Why would you pick this feat, when you can ask your DM if the cleaving rule can be used. If the DM doesn't want any cleaving, why would they let you take this feat? Marasmusine (talk) 11:59, 17 February 2017 (MST)
This feat would benefit you even if cleaving rules are in place. Instead of just dealing leftover damage, you're making another attack. But I see your point, especially as this is Homebrew.
Easy there guys, it was an old feat that I thought that might work, but now it doesn't function at all in my opinion. --Azernath (talk) 17:54, 18 February 2017 (MST)

I made some changes to hopefully make it unique and functional. As well as adding some flavor --Meep (talk) 07:27, 30 December 2017 (MST)
