BLUF

The Vale of Cormyr is home to Caras Alasse, City of Glass, and has been the heart of ‘Lowland’ Elfkind for Ages. Caras Alasse is the home of the Orostran Clade of elves, and is quickly becoming the center of their web of influence in the west. The Orostran Clade is made up of High Elves, Wood Elves, and small groups of River, Grey, and Dark Elves. Elves from clades far and wide can be found in the Vale as well, and the city’s name in Elven Chant is the City of Doors. The Cormyri Vale is an Elder Forest, spawned at a confluence of Ley Lines during the Seldarine Age. The Vale’s gate to the world is Antara, an Imperial city that is so intermarried that it’s tough to find someone who isn’t half-elf.

History

Country

The quiet serenity of the Cormyri Vale is lit by the full moon.

The Vast Woodland Realm of King Alandar Tallesin, King of the Sylvan Elves. The Cormyri Vale has been the heart of elven civilization in the West since the first Athonian and Sartaani armies defeated the Lowland Elves and took their cities. At the center of the expanse of ancient trees lies the City of Glass - the oldest city in the Westlands. The city of Glass extends from the forest's floor up to the highest reaches of the gigantic central trees. Beautiful glass and crystal melds with leaf, vine, and wood construction sung out of the virgin trees thousands of years ago. The city is home to 40,000 Sylvan Elves and 15,000 Elves of other kinds: the River Elves of the West and many High Elves visit and live in the great city. The nearby forest is home to several small suburbs that form almost a pear shape around the city and up the river, these house possibly 25,000 more elves. All in all, the City of Glass is a metropolis by western elven standards, and it is more that 5 times as large as any other elven settlement in the West.

Around this city of wonders spreads the serene vastness of the forest, a seemingly endless realm of trees and plants. For the most part the Vale's floor, deep beneath the double canopy, is an expanse of plants from ground to knee height - although some areas are choked so thick you'd need spells to cut through. The landscape does vary dramatically in the forest however. The river enters in the north and splits, with the main branch running into the Forestwell in the City of Glass. The river's many tributaries dip down into a multitude of fingering valleys. the Vale, true to its name, is riddled with small valleys and sunken rivers. Some are barely noticeable, and most of the Vale's area would be flat or rolling plains without the trees, but there are rope bridges well-travelled branches over the deepest of the valleys.

In the serene half-light of the ancient woods, the air is pleasantly cool throughout the day. By some ancient spell, snow never enters the forest during the winter, and the vast bulk of the trees provides warmth to keep the forest's temperature up. The Aelyd Stone groves and ancient ruins of elven cities of old still emenate the enchantment, preserving the Vale. In the 4th Age Sylvan elves of the Vale live singly, in family groups, as clans, or in larger "clades" that cluster into towns or a collection of villages. They hunt and grow a variety of plants, nuts, tubers, and mushrooms in the woods and generally live a peaceful existence. Some of the clades are more agressive, especially with outsiders, but fighting on a clan or tribal scale is rare. XXXXXX
