Talk:The Carar Host (5e Subclass)

From D&D Wiki

Hello, fellow wikian! I did some wordings on your page, it seemed it could do with some works. Additionally, here are some comments I would like to make on the features:

  • Infected Claw. Interesting feature, I love the premise. I want to encourage you to make a homebrew invocations for Carar Host patron, on Warlock Class Feature: Invocations and Boons page. I think bladelocks (warlocks with Pact of the Blade feature) can benefit from some new features and invocations.
  • Infective Spore. Like you said, this feature is an improved version of dragonborn's racial trait. I would recommend considering expending a spell slot to use this feature, instead of the typical "one use, regains after finishing short rest" stuff - this would be more warlock-ish, in my opinion. Maybe you can scale damage as the spell slot level increases (an unique trait of warlock's Pact Magic feature) like paladin's Divine Smite feature.
  • Regenerative Bacteria. Okay, I have to make some comments on this one. You see, D&D 5e does not tell in-combat from out-of-combat, a round is just a 6-second unit for convenience. See fighter's Survivor feature to see how restricted it is to just have a decent auto-hit-point-regeneration feature. I suggest either you change the hit points with temporary hit points (which work more like shields from Starcraft rather than actual hit points) or you just revamp the entire feature to ordinary damage resistance feature.
  • Psychic Contagion. I'm afraid to say this, but since a warlock already have a decent AoE damage feature at 6th level (and some good spells for that matter) I don't think another damage feature would be necessary. Maybe there must be a way to make a decent, quasi-capstone feature you can come up with from Carar in Subnautica videogame. I've never played the game myself, so I'm afraid I cannot help you with this part.

Well, that's it. In short: Love the concept and all, I always love a decent derivative works like I see here, but with some more modifications and improvements, this would make some kick-arse patron I would like to see in my session. --WeirdoWhoever (talk) 11:55, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Hey there, just perusing warlock subclasses. I think infected claw would be balanced if the bit about the claws being considered magical for purposes of overcoming damage reduction occurred at level 5 (similar to some other classsub-class features) BigShotFancyMan (talk) 07:33, 30 March 2018 (MDT)

Most nonmagical resistances and immunities are to physical damage types (Bludgeoning, piercing, slashing) though, other ones would just be resistances to poison damage, which Infected Claw doesn't bypass.
Sorry, I forgot to log in above. --AngelsAndAarakocra (talk) 08:06, 30 March 2018 (MDT)
Just saying, the exact wording matches the monk ki empowered strikes, a 6th level feature. Pact of Blade for Warlocks gives this at level 3. My point is that at level 1, overcoming resistances and immunities seems too soon and gaining this aspect at minimum level 3 (to at least match the Pact of the Blade feature) would be a good idea.
