Talk:Meteor Knight (5e Class)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Hello everyone, to the Meteor Knight class.

Please, feel free to ask any questions about the class, point out any errors or terminology I have misused, and give suggestions on to balance it further.

Yes, hello, I'm a bit confused by it. At 1st level, there's a class feature called "meteor armor", but it describes a piece of equipment. Is it a piece of equipment they happen to start with, or is it supposed to be exclusive to this class?
For Bash,
  • 5e doesn't have "non-lethal damage" (that's 3rd edition) or "immediate actions" (that's 4th edition).
  • "You may use this feature equal to your proficiency modifier, resetting after finishing a Long Rest." should read "You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency modifier. You regain your uses when you finish a long rest."
  • It's an attack, not a strike.
In fact, let me reword this one for you for free:

When you target a creature with a weapon attack, you can choose to make it a bash. If the attack hits, you deal an extra 1d8 bludgeoning damage if the weapon deals bludgeoning damage, or an extra 1d4 bludgeoning damage if it deals piercing or slashing damage.

In addition, if the attack roll beat the target's AC by 5 or more, the target must make a Constitution save with a DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier. On a failed save, the target is stunned until the end of its next turn.

You can use bash a number of times equal to your proficiency modifier. You regain your uses when you finish a long rest.

When you reach 9th level in this class, the extra damage increases to 2d8 for bludgeoning weapons, and 1d8 for piercing or slashing weapons.

I did not make the stun ongoing, as stun is a very powerful condition that a 1st level PC would not normally have.
You can commission me to rewrite the whole thing if you like. Marasmusine (talk) 09:03, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Balance and Grammar[edit]

Thanks again to Marasmusine for pointing out those errors.

Are there any other questions or suggestions on balance or grammar? Anything that is confusing or might be confusing to a less experienced player?

I am open to suggestions on changes to make for the class, and I would prefer all suggestions to be made in discussion. (Not that I think it happens often, but as the creator I would prefer others not simply edit my class on the fly.)

I am also new to this wiki. If my posts are in the wrong location, please tell me.

For fun and for players![edit]

I would love to hear about any adventures you had with this class! Let me know if it was fun to play and added an important part of your group!

battlerager fighter[edit]

This class is like a cross between a fighter and a battlerager barbarian. I think its worth having a look at path of the battlerager from the sword coasts adventures guide book if you can get your hands on it in some form to compare the meteor knight to the battlerager, if you haven't heard of it before.

Like the meteor knight, the battlerager obtains a type of armour called spiked armour, which has a ac of 14 (one lower than the meteor armour) 1/10th of the price of meteor armour and is twice as light.

Even if this class was directly inspired from the battlerager, (which i doubt) i think its best to rework it a little bit to make it stand out from a fighter + battlerager cross. Because the meteor knight is very similar to a fighter to the point where it may as well be just a fighter archetype. - cam a.k.a the_unambitious_bard (tumblr)

A bit confused[edit]

First excellent class I really enjoyed reading it and in my next campaign I might play it that being said I have a question about the 20th level feature it says I can summon a meteor which is fine but it doesn’t provide an action or a cool down so I was wondering if you could plug that in.

I'm not the OP, but i did most of the recent rework and fixes. It is supposed to be an Action to summon the meteor, and used once per long rest. Also, it is not supposed to be used indoors, but i'll clear that. Anastacio (talk) 12:25, 9 March 2021 (MST)

Thank you this helps a bunch now for some adventures.

I have one more concern it’s just that the amount of weapons you gain access to are limited because this class favors bludgeoning damage such as war hammers and mauls even though there are many other weapons with the two handed property and just wanted to know if this the only restriction to the class. --Alucarddragonborn (talk) 16:44, 11 March 2021 (MST)

I would say that this is more flavor than anything. Allowing the features to be used to weapons other than bludgeoning weapon wouldn't unbalance anything. I can remove this limitation since it doesn't affect balance at all. Anastacio (talk) 20:14, 11 March 2021 (MST)
