Sapping Smite
1st-level Evocation
Casting time: 1 Bonus Action
Range: Self
Components: Verbal
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

The next time you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack during the spell's duration, your weapon seems to sap the heat and light from the air around it, and the attack deals an extra 1d4 necrotic damage and 1d4 cold damage, causing their body to be consumed by the Plane of Shadows. At the start of each of its turns until the spell ends, the target must make a constitution saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 1d4 necrotic damage and 1d4 cold damage. On a successful save, the spell ends. If the target or a creature within 5 feet of it uses an action to break the shadow's hold, or something else causes the shadows to disperse (the creature runs into intense sunlight or other light source) the spell ends.

Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the initial extra damage dealt by the attack increases by 1d4 for each slot above 1st.
