Suggestions[edit]

You should split Invistir into two separate gods, possibly one of trade and economic prosperity and one of greed and abuse of sorts. I would do that only because merchants usually aren't evil. As Invistir commands worshippers to take what they want, his alignment sounds more like chaotic neutral while typical merchants would likely be in the lawful area, taking advantage of opportunities only within the boundaries of the law, as getting arrested isn't exactly beneficial to themselves. Either that or come up with a weird reason about why Invistir and his followers are so determined to have things their way.

-Bearcat7

That makes sense, I think I may have been a little cynical making the god of greed also be the god of commerce.

I really liked the idea of a Wobbum paladin. If I made an "Oath of Debauchery" paladin option, would you be interested in putting it up?

Sure, go ahead, let me know about it.

You should pitch your format to the admins for your template to be used for other campaign settings. It looks very "clean" and professional

I do like the layout over the default, but I copied it from another setting, although I don't remember which one. Lemiel14n3 (talk) 22:45, 15 March 2016 (MDT)

The sky whales might be getting hungry. There has to be a food source for them. How about cloud krill. Also there could be new creatures and ways to fly. Like sky turtles and whales with harnesses and ships on their back or superbouyant flight rocks.

How about having a sky pirate class

Were trains invented yet I feel as if they would be and I think I will homebrew in some.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 63.142.37.138 (talkcontribs) . Please sign your posts.

There is gunpowder and flying ships so I would say that trains likely would have been invested. I am not sure what use they would have though as in most cases a flying ship is better. --Blobby383b (talk) 15:42, 11 October 2019 (MDT)

could you make a map of the ground?

For how the classes fit in you should include the UA Mystic because you already have the artificer. I am running a campaign using this and one of my members wants to use mystic.

what would you think about a gun cane weapon?

Hey. The guns seem kind of under powered. Do you think you could use this source instead? thanks. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwRBp4t9A8LbM0ZDdkRObHdzX0E/view —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 2601:5c1:c180:6c2:cef:c42e:bf84:2a52 (talkcontribs) . Please sign your posts.

You are free to use whatever homebrew rules you want in your own game, the guns in this campaign setting are pretty bare bones and if you are looking for something more, that guide should fit the bill.--Blobby383b (talk) 12:09, 25 August 2019 (MDT)

I had the idea for a pterosaur-like Aarakocra variant.

Someone404 (talk) 14:02, 28 May 2020 (MDT)

Although standard aarakocra are not too common in this setting, I would image the variant race would have a decent bit of interaction with them that needs to be fleshed out. Either way, what are your ideas for the race so far?--Blobby383b (talk) 09:28, 29 May 2020 (MDT)

Almost like sky orcs, they're marauders that travel the skylands. https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Pterafolk_(5e_Race)

Someone404 (talk) 11:36, 29 May 2020 (MDT)

It'd be cool if you made a discord server, so people could post questions, leave ideas, maybe help build to it by offering stat blocks and more in depth maps, all in a more user friendly environment.

Questions[edit]

Hello I have a question about the calander, I was looking at the holidays and only saw 13 names for the months but I had read that their are 14 months in the year, whats the name for that month and can I get a list of them in their proper order thx. -ExtraLitBoii

Can Mounts like wyverns and griffons be used to fly between the giant skylands? Or is this up to me? - anon

Yes, but they'd likely require pit stops along the way. Traveling between large skylands would probably be a few days travel, so travelers would need to stop at smaller skylands along the way to rest. Lemiel14n3 (talk) 20:05, 27 October 2016 (MDT)

Also who the heck is The Other and is there a page dedicated to this entity??? - same anon

The Other is an homage to Phil & Kaja Foglio's Girl Genius series. In this world they studied the secrets of the Illithid and created slaver worms that would burrow themselves into people's minds and make it so they were incapable of disobeying any direct orders they were given by the other. They're called "the other" because their true identity was never discovered, they just stopped. But they had done enough damage that the old empire never recovered. I'll try and make a page for them, but for now, someone might find the "engines" that produce slaver worms, anyone infected will be compelled to do three things, protect the engine, bring people to the engine to be infected, and obey any orders given by the other and members of their bloodline.Lemiel14n3 (talk) 20:05, 27 October 2016 (MDT)

Would you take any city/settlement ideas into consideration? I have a couple doodles/sketches that I fleshed out a bit and might fit this setting. The city I was most interested on suggesting was what currently under the name "Tallow-top". It's a large growing city that recently hit a huge industrial wave. It was originally a sort of beacon to mark air routes that grew through the sale of tallow candles. The beacons themselves are huge candles that are always lit. The city is built on a large, steep outcropping of rock. To enter from the lower parts of the island, a series of lifts does the job. In the rock outcropping on which the city is built upon is full of ore and minerals. The mining is what mainly brought the economy to where it is now in this bustling large city.

-sort of anonymous person (Also I have an image if it helps.)

I'm all for suggestions on cities/settlements, especially since the variety and dispersal of the skylands and ground territories lends itself well to "star trek 'planet of the week'" type story telling and setting development, this is helped more by large swathes being unsettled or only loosely controlled.
I do have a few suggestions for this, 1: I want to be strict about keeping the setting pre-industrial, industrial revolutions completely alter the society they occur in, and the emergence of one would mean the loss of too many D&D elements. 2: I'd also remove the candle-beacons, candles aren't that great a light source for illuminating things farther than a few feet away regardless of their size. Instead of a few massive candles, thousands of small candles would be immediately and recognizably bright (maybe they eschewed the usual light house in favor of the packed constellation of candles) 3: I'd also have its primary industry go from mining to ranching, since the development of all these candles would need a lot of fat to render into tallow.

Okay, that can be changed. The sketch started out a little excessively whimsical but can curve towards those suggestions (By sketch, I really mean a concept inspired a doodle that I fished out of my desk). There can be large grazing fields and such for cattle and other animals. The city state is generally self dependent and has an economy similar to the command style (A loose government dictates production to fit basic needs before any sort of luxuries are even considered). Because of this, even most farmers and peasants can live a modest lifestyle, but at the same time, there are no outstanding wealthy people.

Or you could make it whaling.

Settlement ideas, yes? The Saltee Islands. Taken from the book: Airman. Set during the late 1800s but can be changed to fit this time period. The Saltee Islands are off the coast of Ireland and consist of 2 main islands. A large, thick wall surrounds the two islands. Most of the population are good sharpshooters and sailors. Their main trade and source of income: salt mining. Those who break the law are sent to Little Saltee: the smaller of the two islands and the prisoners are forced to work underground mines and underwater mines. A large bell is their only way of getting underwater without suffocating and dieing. System of government: Monarchy, under the rule of a dynasty of kings and queens. Big Saltee: where the residents reside and most the army stays along with the Saltee Castle. The wall goes up on the island partially and that's where many of the barracks for the soldiers are. The Saltee Castle is also right up against the wall. I'm sure this settlement can be changed to fit the campaign setting, which I absolutely love. If you plan on making "quests" and "missions", may I suggest you make this an invasion mission? A few islands convert to their old ways under their own personal monarchy and the party has to sneak on the island and do some covert ops type stuff. I guess this is more of a suggestion than a question, but would you consider adding this as a major settlement?

Saw this recently, and think Orizon is really awesome, props to you. Anyways, I'm running a suspect-test Campaign using Orizon, to test out its functions. Naturally, I have a few questions. 1.) Are Languages pulled straight from D&D? I;m trying to incorporate that in some how. 2.) I noticed you don't have any cities, at least not in Estir. You have the kingdoms/etc and political setup of each which is great, but no cities/towns/etc. So, I was wondering for the sake of my Campaign, if you wouldn't mind me making up a few cities/other places. OR, you could provide me with a simple list of names and relative location/general happenings within. 3.) If you want to follow and/or play in the Campaign, you have priority if you want it. I'm hosting it over Roll20.

I've tried clicking the link, it just says "not authorized," I think that might be the wrong type of link. Lemiel14n3 (talk) 12:03, 27 March 2016 (MDT)
Whoops, sent you the link to in-game. Here's the link https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/43866/banner-of-the-black-shores. Just to let you know, I've got 5 pretty experienced players on board already. Would be great for you to help out on some of the aspects. Assuming you have time.

Armor? I think my question was missed cause its short so im trying to add a bit of meat to it, but is the armor section supposed to Replace standard armor, or add to it?

Are people living on the islands able to mine resources from the islands themselves, or does it all come from the ground people? I could imagine this getting heavy, transporting stuff.

Been using this campaign setting for about 2 years now. Sharadamai section mentions steep cliffs in the central region but the map itself doesn't show elevation. Where about are they? --Viggoh17 (talk) 08:33, 14 September 2020 (MDT)

Anecdotes[edit]

Had players in my recent session of this be affected by a Wild Magic Eruption. They were affected by the death & reincarnate effect. Their reincarnations were hysterical.
