Weighted Clothing (5e Equipment)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

These weights are clothing or some other forms of clothing (a bag-like turtle shell) fitted with built-in weights or inherently heavy, weights come in all different shapes and sizes. And with extended wear, a wearer's abilities can be temporarily enhanced. While you are wearing the weights, your movement speed is decreased by -X ft., and you have a -X penalty to Dexterity or Strength checks (not both). When you remove the weights, this penalty is lost, your movement speed increases by +X ft. and you have a +X bonus to Dexterity or Strength checks for 1/100th of the time you wore them (i.e. if you wore them for 24 hours, you gain this benefit for 14 minutes). You may take off weighted clothing as a full turn action, but putting them on takes 1 minute. The number of the penalty and bonus depends on how heavy the weights are, with heavier variants being more rare.

Weighted Clothing Lightweight tier[edit]

Wondrous Item, common

This tier of weighted clothing is the most common type of them all, it's available to most fighters and while not very effective for most, its a good small push for fighters who are already on the peak to a new level of strength.

  • These weights give a -1 penalty to Dexterity or Strength checks and a -5 penalty to speed.
  • This tier weighs 100 lbs.

Weighted Clothing Middleweight tier

Wondrous item, uncommon

This tier of weighted clothing though not readily available, is both the most preferred and worn type of weighted clothing, giving its wearer a solid drawback and in turn a solid boost in power and speed if trained with long enough.

  • These weights give a -2 penalty to Dexterity or Strength checks and a -10 penalty to speed.
  • This tier weighs 200 lbs.

Weighted Clothing Heavyweight tier

Wondrous item, rare

This tier of weighted clothing is rare, due to not being preferred by most due to its immense weight giving its wearer massive drawbacks and making maneuverability extremely difficult, or simply because some just can't carry its weight, but those that can and do train with these weights often benefit from immense speed and a good boost in strength if it was coupled with basic training.

  • These weights give a -3 penalty to Dexterity or Strength checks and a -15 penalty to speed.
  • This tier weighs 400 lbs.

Weighted Clothing Super Heavyweight tier

Wondrous item, very rare

This tier of weighted clothing is the rarest, due to not being preferred by most due to its immense weight giving its wearer massive drawbacks and making maneuverability extremely difficult, or simply because some just can't carry its weight, but those that can and do train with these weights often benefit from immense speed and a good boost in strength if it was coupled with basic training.

  • These weights give a -4 penalty to Dexterity or Strength checks and a -20 penalty to speed.
  • This tier weighs 800 lbs.

Nonmagical. Weighted clothing aren't actually magical, and therefore are not effected by anti-magic fields.
