Adamantite. Mystic trade good (metal), 10000 gp per kilogram. Adamantite—with some alloys or grades known instead as adamantium, adamantine, or simply adamant—is an extremely rare alloy said to be impossibly strong and sharp, yet incredibly lightweight. It is said to be immune to all forms of natural corrosion. High-grade adamantite is transparent and reflective, granting a similar appearance to polished diamonds or glass. Some adamantite alloys, like those typically used for armor, takes on a more opaque appearance, though the precise hue varies depending on the other metals in the alloy.
The process of forging adamantine is known to be extremely difficult, widely sought, and long forgotten. Many contradictory legends tell of where and how it can form. The apparent fact no modern smiths even know how to create it only adds to adamantite's perceived rarity and value. It is generally accepted that both diamonds and platinum are involved in creating adamantite. While difficult to create, once made adamantite is said to be easy to work with, akin to steel, and cannot be ruined or destroyed.
Many smiths consider it to be the ultimate metal, though some doubt its existence. Almost any adamantite found in sufficient quantities is used to craft weapons for the super-rich (see adamantite weapon), or to coat armor to increase its protective properties (see adamantite armor). Such arms and armor are so valuable, however, that the mere act of brandishing them can paint you as a target for thievery or worse.
A single ingot of high-grade adamantite weighs only 1 kilogram yet costs a whopping 10,000 gp. Such an ingot is a petty item.
