Notes[edit]

While this page is currently a WIP, I might as well explain my reasonings for the bits I have put in:

  • Rarity and Level Requirement: Even though Soul Dews are somewhat common in Lationa, they are rarely seen outside of it. I decided to have the Rarity be Rare to balance this out, and as Rare items need a Player Level of 6th Level or higher, that made the requirement that.
  • Stat Requirements: Constitution needs to be 12+ such that the Lati has at least a max HP modifier of +1 per level, due to the Dew causing a decrease in max HP after creating it. The Wisdom or Intelligence requirements are to make sure the Lati is wise or smart enough to know how to make one.
  • Material Requirements: The orb is what becomes the Soul Dew, so it is an important part of the crafting. While there should be other materials, I didn't know what they'd be, but I decided that there should be some way for the Lati to start to infuse the Soul Dew with their soul, which is like their lifeforce, so I decided that a sterile dagger which hasn't been used before would be needed. Finally, the ritual stuff is used to help the Lati complete the process and would account for the remainder of the material cost.
  • Spell Requirements: The fact that one of the benefits of the Soul Dew improves spells which do Radiant or Psychic damage means the Lati needs to know at least one which can do that in order to gain that benefit. But as the Soul Dew does not contain any spells, they don't need to be expended.
  • Time Requirements: I feel that 500 hours - about 12 and a half weeks of 5 days at 8 hours a day - would be long enough to get it ready.
Update: I decided to reduce this if you are remaking it by 50% so that the work which had been made before is not wasted should the Soul Dew be used up.
  • Ritual Requirements: Along with the materials required, the fact that you need a Long Rest (8 hours sleep) is for the Lati to attune to the Soul Dew. And due to the fact that the attunement will include actually putting a bit of their soul into the Dew, this means the Long Rest's recovery is instead used to finish the Soul Dew. This makes the first day after making it somewhat tough, due to not having access to as many spells, but if the Lati had prepared by not doing a lot before doing the ritual, they would be better off.
  • Soul Fragment: In the Pokémon Heroes movie, it is implied that the Soul Dew contains the soul of a deceased Latios, and the Latios in the movie sacrificed his life to create a replacement Soul Dew. As I feel this is too high of a cost, I decided that only a fraction of a Lati's soul is needed instead - which cuts their HP down slightly as a result. But due to them having a part of their soul separated from their body, which some would claim is a bit like a Horcrux, this part grants an advantage to Death Saves, meaning they are less likely to die. If they do indeed die, then like the Latios from the movie, their soul joins with the Dew if they are within range - which means to revive them, the Dew is needed.
  • Psychic/Radiant Focus: This is meant to emulate the increase in power to Psychic- and Dragon-type moves from the Gen VIII games, and the Sp. Atk and Sp. Def increases from earlier games. However, to make the latter boost not OP which led to the Soul Dew being banned until the changes, I limited it to be linked to the damage type used, and have it only have one of Radiant (which is used for Luster Purge, and so is the 'replacement' for Dragon-Type) or Psychic damage can be improved by the orb. The Special Attack bonus is a reroll of the lowest damage die, and a boost to the DC for saves against it, while the Special Defense bonus is a reaction which grants reroll of the highest damage die and a +2 to their save check.
  • Mega Evolution Extend: This might be scrapped, but it would help a Lati who can use Mega Evolution to use it for a bit longer.
Update: Due to Mega Evolution now being a 1-minute timeframe, which can be refreshed with a short or long rest, and not having charges, I have altered it to only grant an additional use, but keeping the refresh rate as it is.
  • Artifact Soul Dew Conversion: This is only really relevant if you want to do a campaign in or around Lationa, and the character is a member of the Royal Lati family and is more for fluff than anything. I haven't included it yet as for one, it's incomplete, and for two, I might not include it in the final version.
Update: I decided that I would indeed remove it for the final version.

Well, it's not a WIP anymore. Latius (talk) 02:49, 9 March 2020 (MDT)

Progress[edit]

Hey Wikian, is this article still being worked on? Maybe a subuser page is better until it is ready? Red Leg Leo (talk) 07:56, 3 March 2020 (MST)

The basic stuff is all sorted out. I just have it marked as WIP as tweaks could be made. And I am taking a short break from doing DnD stuff, but would work on it some more soon. Latius (talk) 10:41, 3 March 2020 (MST)
Awesome-sauce. Red Leg Leo (talk) 07:27, 4 March 2020 (MST)
And... I think it's done now. Latius (talk) 02:49, 9 March 2020 (MDT)
Nice. I will take a look another time to enjoy it :-). Kudos! Red Leg Leo (talk) 10:27, 9 March 2020 (MDT)
