Um... when I looked up what a "keel boat" from the PHB is on wikipedia, I was told that a keelboat from this time period was a river barge...--Kydo (talk) 11:34, 14 November 2014 (MST)

Keelboats are "built about a slight keel" (rather than being flat-bottomed) and "were typically controlled with oars or poles—usually the latter" (rather than drafted) Marasmusine (talk) 14:00, 14 November 2014 (MST)
Ah, sorry, I was confused by the entry comparing keelboats to barges, and the fact that I was reading just about every wikipedia article about boats at the time.--Kydo (talk) 14:41, 14 November 2014 (MST)

I am curious to know though, are you as dissatisfied with the treatment of waterborne vessels as I am? A boat is so much more than a horse or a carriage. It isn't just a floating box, it is a place in its own right, with decks and rooms. It is a construction, some of which can be enormous, set to travel. And more than that, every one is a unique entity, even if they are made to be as similar as possible, every boat has its own sort of personality. For a game which could readily include seafaring adventure, (and in one adventurers league expedition does so) why are sea vessels afforded such a hand-wave? --Kydo (talk) 04:08, 15 November 2014 (MST)
The PHB is bursting at the seams, I think the existing list was just to "get them in there". To be fair, the PHBs from all the previous editions were also just as brief. 4e Adventurer's Vault expanded on vehicles somewhat, so perhaps we'll see something in a future book.
