Would having Feline Transformation recover after a short or long rest be better both if you don't want to be a wizard(and don't max int) while also making it more balanced(so you can not transform 5 times in a row)?--Blobby383b (talk) 19:25, 20 September 2017 (MDT)
Perhaps. That being said, this is the main feature of the race and I feel like making it only once per rest isn't too great. Also, making it based off int imo makes the most sense as the race is inherintly smart. I understand that maybe wizards would be able to benefit from this but at the same time they can't cast spells. I don't know for sure though. Maybe your idea is better for balance reasons as I'm still unsure about it. Also sorry for the late response, for some reason I didn't get a notification. Balance Issues[edit]

1) Lives too long.

2) 4 Main race Features ... then 2 additional ones from Subrace (typically you get 3-4 racial features, versus this race with total of 6 - one of which is a feat, another of which is a class feature)

3) 'wild shape like ability progresses WAY too fast - move panter to 5th, Lion at 9th, Saber tooth at 13th

  • once per long rest, once more at 5th, then again at 9th, and 13th
  • lasts for 1 hour
  • Full action transformation and revert.
  • I'd suggest Mearls Temp HP solution
  • remove the increased HD feature for the beast form (make that a Toughness feat for them - and.. like the feat +1 hp per Level - animal shape only)

4) Brave is ok.

5) Drop Innately Magical Cantrip .. no, that's a free feat.

6) Drop beast lingo

7) Keep only 1 feature for a subclass - or drop brave.

Saberblood - claws do d4 not d6 - (look at aarakocra - you can have dagger like damage) The other example is the Minotaur which deal d10, then moved to d6 ... but they are also not legal.

Ok so I can understand some of these points but most of them are kind of nonsense imo I'll go over them.

1) Uh I mean does this really matter at all? This would almost never change anything when playing a game. I mean I guess I could lower it but that would change like almost nothing.

2) I can agree with the having too many things. I'll get rid of the prof from the subraces.

3) I can see why you might think this ability is op but it really isn't. For the first 2 levels you can only transform into a cat which is pretty bad. Past that you're a very low cr creature that has low ac, hp and does very little damage. I will say the ability is not perfect and I do like some of the suggestions like gaining extra uses at certain levels.

4) I'd hope so. It's not the greatest feature out there.

5) I mean, if by free feat you're referring to magic initiate in that feat you can choose from 6 classes: 2 cantrips and a 1st lvl spell. This feature is nowhere near as good as that feat. I mean the High-Elf gets it as one of its 7 features.

6) I mean, maybe but this is literally what this race is all about. You are literally half beast. Maybe there is a better way of balancing it but I would never remove it.

7) Yea I can understand this one. Will remove the additional prof with each subrace.

8) I did originally have it at a d4 but after thinking about it this is almost never useful. Almost all adventurer's have a dagger on them and then this trait becomes almost completely useless. I've played many campaigns where somebody is a tabaxi, or an aarakocra and I've probably seen them use this trait like 5 times. Also it's not like it's never been done. The Lizardfolk's bite trait does do a d6. But honestly I'm not too fussed over this one and might eventually change it.
