Talk:Archcleric (5e Class)

Some stuff I noticed

With Divine Spell Progression is it just the spellcasting feature that archcleric are added to cleric levels or do you also gain new cleric features.

With blessed, it is easier to say at the end of a short rest you gain the effects of sanctuary with indefinite duration

Alignment is not really used in 5e so you may want to say creatures of your choice rather than opposite alignment creatures.

With Hallowed Servant can you cast magic circle without a spell slot or is it just that it's casting time is reduced.

With Holy Eminence what is the range for purifying food and water and what is the evil effect that replaces it.

What range does Fear of God have and does it have a limit.

It seems you've found one of my abandoned children Babosa... I've had a few different ideas about what I want for this page since I last touched it so I'll go ahead putting those in with those highlights you've brought up. —ConcealedLightChatmod.png (talk) 05:30, 4 November 2018 (MST)
That's cool. I've started going through the request review pages and found it there. I like what you have done with it so far and would like to contribute. Are you planning on making features for the divine domains?
increasing AC is probably necessary to deal with increasing proficiency bonuses.
An idea for a feature is being able to remove all debuffs 1/day to deal with how most high level creatures have some sort of effect.
I like upgrading the hollow spell for a feature, maybe the area around you is always under the effect of hollow.
My idea for a capstone feature would be to be able to directly host your god in a limited fashion, don't know exactly what the mechanics for that would be.

Feel free to contribute. In regards to AC, characters at this level if they have +3 armor and shield have an AC of 26, 21 without the shield. In a previous high-level campaign, I'd played in my tempest cleric had about that much AC. If players have a +3 weapon that puts their attack modifier at +14, my character had a belt of storm giants strength so that bumped it up to +18. So I don't think there is a need to add more AC into the mix and a DM can always adjust encounters accordingly.
In regards to removing debuffs, a feature called "Zone of Purity" might be good, aoe on self, removes all debuffs from you and allies and causes with the side effect of putting a hallow spell in the area affected.
I listed the essence of the abilities that the solar has and figured I'd plug them as features at different points. The other idea was making it a capstone feature transform into a being of pure radiance for an hour.
As for the divine domain features I've thought about it but due to the progression of the divine domain's I'm not entirely sure where to put them. Probs 27-29. I'd also have to make twice as many features if I included the domains. —ConcealedLightChatmod.png (talk) 01:38, 7 November 2018 (MST)
Ah, I hadn't thought about magical shields or wondrous items, they would balance the increasing proficiency.
Yes, that sounds perfect. Although the hallow effect should probably be given a duration.
I don't think the angelic weapon and healing touch would fit, you already have spells for attacking and healing and features for doing those are more paladins and divine domains area. And transforming is already paladins capstone. Clerics to me are the envoys of gods rather than their warriors.
Domains are a central part of cleric so we should have them but given that the last two domain features are 9 levels apart it will be fitting to only have it once which is nice because there are 7 domains in the base game alone.
Another idea would be to give blessings like maybe give +4 to an ability score for an hour or to ignore resistances or summon a creature for someone else.

I've added some of the divine domains, feel free to make edits if you have an interesting idea, I've missed something or not written something dumb. —ConcealedLightChatmod.png (talk) 09:22, 23 November 2018 (MST)
Well I've taken you up on that offer and I've added a whole bunch of features, what do you think of them, I haven't played with epic levels before so I'm not sure about the features, and the names defenatly could use some improvment. Babosa (talk) 01:32, 24 November 2018 (MST)
With angelic movement, isn't 120 feet a bit too much or is it fairly normal for epic characters to have that much soeed
With defence breaker I was mainly thinking of the tarrasque, and how annoying it would be to fight because of its defences, I actually don't know if it's a good feature or not
With avatar, are you uncomfortable with free communication with a god, the limitless divine intervention or something else Babosa (talk) 19:03, 24 November 2018 (MST)

Clarifications?[edit]

I'm going to start reading through this whole class because I'm really curious about what it's like, LOL. Already, however, I have a question. I'm a little confused by these two pointers under the Ascendant feature, where it says the following -

  • If you benefit from the Potent Spellcasting feature, you may add your Wisdom modifier to the damage you deal with any cleric spell. If you don't have you get hit without adding the Wisdom modifier.
  • If you benefit from the Divine Strike feature, beginning at 21st level the damage increases to 3d8 and then starting at 28th level it increases to 4d8. If you don't you get it without increasing the number of d8.

I took a look, and I see that the Potent Spellcasting feature is given by the Knowledge Domain at 8th level, and the Divine Strike feature is given by the Life Domain at 8th level. For starters, the Potent Spellcasting bullet point is just restating the actual feature, meaning that for clerics of the Knowledge Domain, this bullet point doesn't really do anything. And for both bullet points, I'm confused as to what it means by "If you don't [have] you get [h]it without (feature desc.)". Is this saying that if the player doesn't have these features, they receive them as normal? That seems a little out of place to me, especially picking features from the Knowledge and Life Domain. --Cosmos (talk) 08:57, 2 June 2020 (MDT)
