Talk:Antilonoid (5e Race)

You've made big strides in the right direction balance-wise, but I feel there are a few small changes left to be made to make the race fit more with general 5e design parameters. Firstly, change Enhanced Senses to only give proficiency in Perception, and create a separate trait for Darkvision (60 ft. instead of 30). Also, 40 feet of movement speed is too high. Drop it to 30, or 35 feet if you then take away something else. As for ASIs, mountain dwarves do get +2 to two stats, but they also only get 25 feet of movement. Two +2 ASIs and a higher-than-standard movement speed are unbalanced when together, so I would keep one or the other but not both. Preferably, you keep the higher (35 ft.) movement as I think that fits better with the feral nature of a predatory creature. As for Horns, they should be a 5 ft range, and the damage modifier should be Strength instead of Constitution. This would allow you to remove the strange 'move immediately to their previous location' thing. Also, the target should be able to make a Strength save to avoid the knockback effect. The opportunity attack is an interesting balance choice and I like it, so I think it should stay for now.

I think the subraces are pretty well-balanced and don't require any changes other than toning back the ASIs as I previously mentioned. So Old Ways would get +1 Wisdom, and Integrated would get +1 Intelligence OR +1 Charisma, not both. I think these changes will be some of the last necessary steps to fine-tune the race's balance. Let me know if you have comments or feedback so we can discuss further. --OwenLeaf (talk) 14:37, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

Mostly just fixed wording to match PHB standards. Mechanical changes were:

  • Flipped Musk's penalty from disadvantage on stealth checks to advantage on beasts noticing you. Since stealth checks are often made in advance of any observers, you won't know if you're making the check "against" a particular creature until it looks for you. Also helps in mixed creature ambushes, so only the beasts are better at noticing you.
  • Added an action cost to Horns. The intent may be for this to be a bonus action instead, but it needs SOME sort of action cost.
