Shield of Returning (5e Equipment)
Armor (shield), uncommon, rare, very rare, legendary (requires attunement) These are circular wooden or metallic shields that can be wielded as weapons on the battlefield. While a creature has this item equipped, it can use it as a martial melee weapon with the thrown (range 20/40) property. On a hit, the shield deals 1d6 bludgeoning damage. Bladed versions of this shield deal slashing damage instead. After each thrown attack, the shield automatically returns to your arm if you are within its short range (20 feet), re-equipping itself instantly. Shields of Returning come in multiple rarities, each with additional properties. Shields of higher rarity retain all properties of the lower rarities. Shield of Ricocheting (Rare). Shields of ricocheting have a bonus of +1 to attacks and damage rolls, and to its AC. In addition, when you hit a creature with a thrown attack from this shield, you can use a bonus action to cause the shield to ricochet toward another creature within 20 feet of the original target. Make a new attack roll against that second target. Shields of Rebounding (Very Rare). Shields of rebounding are heavier and sturdier (or sharper in case of bladed shields) and have a bonus of +2 to attacks and damage rolls, and to its AC. In addition, you can use an Action to throw the shield in a circle of rebounding, forcing all creatures of your choice in an area of 10-foot radius within the shield's short range to make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw, or take damage from the shield type equal to 4d6, or half as much on a success. You can't use this property again until the next dawn. Shields of Impact. Shields of impact are heavier and sturdier (or sharper in case of bladed shields) and have a bonus of +3 to attacks and damage rolls, and to its AC. As a Reaction when you hit a creature with your ricochet Bonus Action, you can make another attack against a creature within 20 feet of the previous target. In addition, once a day after each dawn, you can use a Bonus Action to empower the shield, with effects that depend on the shield type chosen, for the next hour:
