Weapon (Warhammer), Artifact (Minor) (Requires Attunement)

Passed down generations of infernal heritage, this hammer contains a powerful devil who's name hasn't been uttered for many years on the material plane.

Infernal Wreath. When you make an attack with the head of this weapon, you can choose to expend one of its charges to imbue the attack with infernal flame, dealing an extra 1d6 fire damage. The charges of Infernal Wreath and Devil's Fang are shared, and are equal to the wielder's Charisma modifier (minimum of 1). Any charges expended are regained after a short or long rest.

Devil's Fang. When you man an attack with the pike of this weapon, you can choose to expend one of its charges to imbue the attack with poison. The target must succeed a DC13 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned. While poisoned in this way, the target can't regain hit points, and it takes 1d4 poison damage at the start of each of its turns. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. The charges of Devil's Fang and Infernal Wreath are shared, and are equal to the wielder's Charisma modifier (minimum of 1). Any charges expended are regained after a short or long rest.

Devil's Insight. While attuned to this weapon, you can use an action to cast Detect Magic without consuming a spell slot. This property cannot be used in this manner again until the next dawn.

Reliance. While attuned to this weapon, you are blinded while you are more than 10 feet away from it.

Unending War. While attuned to this weapon, demons are always hostile toward you.

Sentience. Lament is a sentient Lawful Evil weapon with an Intelligence of 23, a Wisdom of 19, and a Charisma of 25. It sees and hears through its gem, and has truesight out to a range of 30 feet. The weapon can speak, read, and understand Infernal, and can communicate with its wielder telepathically. Its voice is deep and echoing. While you are attuned to it, Lament also understands every language you know.

Personality. Lament speaks with a deep, raspy tone, and rarely speaks unless spoken to. Lament's purpose is to contain the devil within, locking its soul in a gem that lies atop of the hammer's head. However, the soul inside craves destruction of life, as well as freedom. It will frequently try to persuade its wielder to commit atrocities, or even to set its soul free.
