Prismatic Barrier (5e Spell)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search
Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: How can the spell "miss"? I don't understand the section about "light returns after 1 round, resetting the duration...". In terms of naming, there's an expectation with the word "prismatic" that it will be colour-based like prismatic spray, or prismatic wall.

Prismatic Barrier
7th-level abjuration
Casting time: 1 action
Range: 40 ft.
Components: V, S, M (a clear or reflective gem worth at least 50 gp)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

For a brief time, protect yourself and an ally from attacks. You target one ally with this spell. Upon casting it, a spinning flux of light projects from you and strikes them, casting a shield of light on both of you. The shields shed bright light for 5 feet and dim light for another 5 feet as well as increasing both your AC by +4 and halving the damage inflicted on you and them. You can choose not to target an ally or if the spell misses, the flux of light returns to you after 1 round, resetting the duration of the spell and giving an extra +4 AC to the bonus the shield already permits.
