Dire Dagger of Despair (5e Equipment)
Weapon (5e SRD:dagger), legendary (requires attunement) A large curved knife with an ornate handle made of ebony, bone and silver that holds a carefully sharpened and engraved obsidian blade. It is clearly related to it's more common cousins and seems to glow slightly with purple, malevolent energy in the right lighting. You have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon. The dagger does 3d4 Slashing 2d6 necrotic damage. When you roll maximum result on any damage dice for attacks made with this dagger, including as a result of double damage from critical hits, the dice explodes! Add those numbers to your total damage dealt, then roll the dice again, adding the new result to your damage total. If you roll the maximum result on one of your dice again, repeat. Know Despair: On being hit by the Dagger of Despair, the target must make a DC 12 Wisdom save or be incapacitated for one minute reliving the worst moment of their life. Taking damage allows the target to reroll the save, and they can reroll the save again at the end of their turn. If two targets are incapacitated by the dagger, it cannot incapacitate more, instead only doing it's usual damage. Inflict Suffering: After a successful hit against a targeted creature the wielder can use a bonus action to force the targeted creature to make a DC 14 intelligence or versus the wielder's spell DC, whichever is higher. If the target fails, the dagger uses ancient magics to conjure a night terror from their own memories, surrounding them with apparitions of their own worst nightmares. The target suffers the effects of the spell confusion until they can pass a DC 14 wisdom save, or versus the wielder's spell DC, whichever is higher. If a creature targeted with this ability succeeds the check more than twice a combat, the wielder must make a DC 16 intelligence save, or suffer the same fate they would inflict on others. |
