Vlos[edit]

Don't ever get those monkey heads scared or angry if you wanna keep your roof.

Physical Description[edit]

Vlos are a race of humanoids that tend to be a bit shorter than regular humans. They are characterized by their great physique due to much better metabolism than most, as well as extreme growths of hair on their crest and neck, as well as on the crooks of their arms and behind their knees. Their teeth are typically more crooked and the sclera of their eyes are yellow around black irises, giving them a maddened or barbaric unshaven look. When under stress, their hands will shimmer as though sweaty, but it is actually a highly reactive combustible.

History[edit]

Vlos are a race of relatively nice and caring people. That is, until you meet them on the battlefield. then they become the fiercest competitors in the land and they will not stop until they are on the top even, if they have to stand on a pile of corpses to get there. Some would say their best quality is their explosive personality. They are believed to be a cousin of modern man, their race having split off from the same primate race which evolved to the modern human. They developed more in the physical department in evolution rather than in craft, which came later, it seems. Nonetheless, they are acknowledged in history to have fought alongside humans to establish the Age of Humanity.

Society[edit]

Vlos villages are scattered around Toril, and many just live in communities with humans. Vlos tend to live and travel in groups of around four individuals. This is to guard each side of a square like formation, which is what they travel in if they decide to leave the place they were raised in. Their competitive nature can cause problems if left alone, as they do not deal well bottling up their emotions and can turn very passive aggressive if not outright violent. Vlos are often casted out, not only for their often sloven appearance, but also for an odd biological ability to excrete a highly explosive liquid from their hands. They typically use this in combat or to intimidate other creatures, but it can have consequences outside the battlefield. This fluid excretes when the vlos is under duress and can cost a lot in damages to infrastructure. Thus, these well-meaning creatures are often avoided or secluded into ghettos.

In these communities, vlos show their true competitive natures at a young age. They are organized in hierarchy with powerful elders in seats of power. To keep their emotions flowing and avoid explosions, it is customary they train from infancy to childhood in combat until they are roughly 16 years of age. Then they may challenge chiefs of their village community to prove their mastery of their race's mercurial and dangerous disposition. It is a battle to the death for the challenger, as they risk death to prove themselves. If they survive the chief's onslaught and manage a sufficient amount of damage on the elder, the match is ended and they are declared individuals, now allowed to venture out and fend for themselves.

Vlos communities value qualities of heroes above all else. This means chivalry and valor, as well as bravery. Their kind and caring nature factors into chivalry, as they do often mean well, even if they accidentally lose it and blow up the local bath. As for bravery and valor, vlos do not leave a man behind and they are not afraid to stare a medusa in the eye for a comrade.

Vlos Names[edit]

Vlos generally don't have names specific to their own kind. They mostly choose names of the society that they live in, typically humans. They are particularly fond of names of war heroes.

Female: Sigfrieda, Olthar, Maelea
