Varl Are large humanoids, typically bearded and they have long horns like a steer protruding out of their foreheads. They are large creatures but gentle giants. They will fight to defend or protect, and they have very strong warriors. Varl will move around typically nomadic, so long as the terrain is icy and full of meat.

History[edit]

The Varl are believed to hail from a plane stuck in a perpetual winter with many large deer roaming and where savage wolves abound. They are known for their massive size, they can traverse great distances while sleeping very little. Their horns, while sharp are seen as a gift from the gods, a true Varl will never use their horns for battle. The Varl use their runic magic to help themselves survive and thrive in harsh climates. Varl were historically warriors and guides, bringing travelers to safety from the elements and fighting to protect the villages they live by. The Varl are born with an inherent knowledge for creating rune stones, a child Varl will make their first rune stone within 1 year of birth. Many Varl become Paladin's or Fighters, protecting their villages and tribes from evil. Most Varl will leave their village for a 20 year period known as the Wander.

Society[edit]

The Varl societies are organized into tribes. The Varl are Nomadic and wander around northern territories in order to better watch for danger and protect the surrounding villages. There are also the Shatterhorn Varl, Varl who break the sacred law of their people. If a Varl uses their horns to inflict pain on another creature, their tribe views them as apostate, and they will cut off the horns and shatter them. The Chieftan is the Highest tier of their society, it is determined by vote among the members of a tribe. It is very Rare for a Varl to have no interest in helping others, and all Varl are taught the importance of generosity from a young age.

Varl culture does tend to be somewhat isolationist . They ally with other races for the sake of peace, but otherwise keep to themselves. Varl are often slow to accept new ideas, being attached to a long and deep tradition. Many Varl while being williing to protect humans, do not nesscarily like or respect them, seeing the younger race as arrogant and immature.
