I would like to point out a little tidbit of information: Asshole DMs aren't fun to play with. Especially when they decide to target you. Skipping your turn, forcing you unconscious, pit you solo against 3 enemies that are aggroed at you for no reason with them having a Deadly challenge rating each, messing up attacks to where they instant kill you, target you for random happenings where only you are the only one effected. It sucks. And what makes it worse is that when called out on any of these, the same response is given. "F**ck it, I'm the DM." or "Because I say so." Oh wait, i also forgot to mention the repetitive threats that have been made against my character to insta-kill it with the God Power that is the DM. It makes stories less appealing, and to be honest? At this point I couldn't care less that you adlib campaigns. I would rather strictly follow a pre-made campaign with a DM that strictly follows every single rule the books have to offer.

The biggest problem a DM can have is what I call Bastardosity. It’s like animosity, but with more dickishness in it. These DMs do nothing but try to kill characters and screw over players. Oh, there’s a time and place for that, and certainly, a flair for occasional cruelty is definitely an asset for any gamemaster. But we all know these DMs who feel they’re playing against the players, and the only way for them to “win” is when all the PCs are dead. A game where you never get to set out on the adventure because the tavernkeeper happens to be the brother of the lich-king you heard of 20 seconds ago and has poisoned all your drinks? That’s Bastardosity.
