Response[edit]

Hello, thank you for your quick response and support, I'm doing my best to reform this class which I believe to have lot's of potential.

I was wondering though your opinion on the idea of changing the hit die from a d12 to a d10. After reading through the advice on building proper classes, while pondering your comment on the d12 hit die I thought it best to downgrade it and decided it would work best as a d10 considering the classes reliance on Constitution.

Of course I'll try not to nag you about this and wish you well, I apologize if I contacted you wrong as I am rather new to this part of D&D Wiki.

Sincerely with best whishes, --INeedCoolDice (talk) 04:36, 30 April 2025 (UTC)

Yeah, it sounds reasonable. d12 HD is something only barbarians get, and even d10 HD are somewhat scarce, so imho reducing the HD is a step that would have needed to be taken at some point, unless other balancing factors were introduced. The official class this one seems the closest to in mechanics and flavour, from what I saw, is the Monk, who get d8 HD, but there is no need to make a carbon copy either.
I do want to clarify that it having "1d12 HD, two common saving throws and 3 skill proficiencies" is not necessarily a problem in itself, but it is one of the signs of badly balanced classes I've seen over and over again. Since the standard is having d8-d10 HD (lower for squishier classes, d12 for the damage sponges), one common (Dexterity, Constitution or Wisdom) and one uncommon (Strength, Intelligence or Charisma) saving throw proficiencies (with no official exception) and two skill proficiencies (skill monkeys such as rogues get an additional one), finding all three of them together is a clear symptom that the creator did not actually think in balancing their class against other material. So, while you could have a perfectly balanced class with all three of those, that would require the rest of the class to be balanced around it, which usually isn't the case.
Regarding the third paragraph, no problem at all, it is refreshing to see your enthusiasm, and being able to help is a pleasure. This contact method works perfectly, feel free to send a message here or in the class talk page if you need more help or a second opinion.
Best wishes, Draelm (talk) 11:47, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
