Requirement. You must start with Intelligence 10 or lower to make a protag of this lineage.
Creature Type. You are a beast, instead of a humanoid. You are also a quadruped.
Size. Mutts vary widely in stature, but are usually between 3 and 5 feet long (or 90 and 150 cm). Your size is Medium.
Speed. You have a walking speed of 40 feet.
Ability Score Increase. Increase your Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution by 2. Alternatively, you can increase two of these scores by 1 each.
Unarmed. You have no hands nor any limb which is nearly as dexterous, and thus you cannot wield any weapon, shield, or item unless it is designed for your body style. You can carry an item of appropriate size and shape in your mouth. You can still supply somatic components of spells, but must substitute any hand gestures with body motions. You can still stow and retrieve items from your bag, but doing so requires an action (or someone else to help you). Instead of armor, you wear barding appropriate to your size, and you need the help of another creature to don or doff it.
Keen Senses. You have proficiency in the Perception skill.
Keen Hearing and Smell. You have advantage on any Perception check that relies on hearing or smell.
Bite. You have fangs you can use to make an unarmed strike. When you hit with it, this strike deals piercing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the normal damage for an unarmed strike. The damage die increases by one step each time your proficiency bonus increases beyond 2, becoming d6 at 3, d8 at 4, d10 at 5, and d12 at 6. You can use Dexterity instead of Strength for attack and damage rolls made with your bite. Your bite always deals maximized damage to any beast with a proficiency bonus of 1 or lower.
Pack Tactic. Once on each of your turns, you can gain advantage on an attack roll if at least one of your allies is within 5 feet of the creature and that ally isn't incapacitated.
Mount. You can willingly serve as the mount for a human-shaped creature one size category smaller than you.
Languages. You can understand spoken Common but you cannot speak articulately, and you can't read or write. What vocal sounds you are able to make are still enough to provide the verbal components of spells you know or other features you learn.
Starting Gear. Instead of the normal gear from character creation, you only start with saddlebags which otherwise function as your bag, filled with 3 rations and a gold piece. You can start with a collar if you like, which functions as your common clothes.
Heritage. Choose one heritage from Blink Dog, Dracodog, Pupper, or White Wolf.

'Sup, dog. You're a canine. You're gonna have a ruff time.
Folks' Best Friend. It's well-known that mutts descended from wolves and wild dogs who thrives thousands of years ago. The rampage of millenia of magic wars has since destroyed virtually all the terrain these ancient animals used to survive. Today, most mutts live on as the domesticated animals of various folks. While the puppers of humans and the are perhaps the most familiar, jotun call upon white wolves and dragon-kin call upon dracopups, among many other breeds. There are still some wild mutts out there, but many bear no resemblance to their ancestors.

Blink Dog

These mutts roam the swamps and savannas of the magic-filled feywild, usually distinguished by the short tan-colored fur with blends into the sand and brown grasses of the dryer regions. Blink dogs are so named for their uncanny ability to "blink" out of existence temporarily, effectively teleporting a short distance. This is just one of the many supernatural peculiarities of the Feywild, and in all likelihood no blink dog truly understands how they do it. As a blink dog, your main distinguishing feature is the prominent vertebrae visibly running along your spine, and your particularly tall and pointed ears.

Blink. As a bonus action, you can teleport directly to an unoccupied space you can see up to 40 feet away. You can "blink" a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish downtime.
Blinking Stalker. You have proficiency in the Stealth skill. If you use your bonus action to blink and then use your action to hide in the same turn, you have advantage on any ability check made to hide.
Fey Resilience. You can't be charmed.
Extra Language. You can understand spoken Sylvan. If you become able to speak or read Common, you also become able to speak or read Sylvan.

Dracodog

Dracodogs have spent centuries in the domains of dragons. Like many Draconion creatures, they have quickly evolved to have dragon-like physical traits, especially including reptilian eyes. Dracodogs in particular still have fur on their undersides, but bright-colored scales on their backsides and tail. As a dracodog, you have more prominent claws than most, but your breath weapon is what makes you truly fearsome.

Breath Weapon. As an action, you can exhale magical energy in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity save against your Constitution DC (which is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier). On a failed save, a creature takes magical damage equal to Pd6, where P is your proficiency bonus. A creature takes half as much damage on a successful save. The damage type is one from acid, fire, or lightning as decided when you first gain this trait. Once you use your breath weapon, you can't use it again until you finish a rest.
Draconic Resistance. You have resistance to the same damage type dealt by your breath weapon.
Extra Language. You can understand spoken Draconic. If you become able to speak or read Common, you also become able to speak or read Draconic.

Pupper

While most humans just call them dogs, other folk frequently call this breed "puppers" to better distinguish them from other mutts. After countless generations living among humans and hobbits, puppers have picked up a striking number of human characteristics—and a particularly strong affinity for folk in general. Puppers tend to have less pronounced fangs and claws, and most would prefer to use weapons anyway. A pupper also is more likely to make eye contact with folk and express themselves through body language like tail-wagging, at least compared to other mutts.

Ability Score Increase. Increase your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma score by 1.
Your Best Friend. You have advantage on any Charisma (Persuasion) check made to positive impression on a humanoid who can't verbally understand you, and such folk also have advantage on any Insight check made to understand you or what you're feeling.
Wielder. Your mouth can wield a melee weapon or item as if you had one hand. You do not benefit from the finesse property with a weapon you wield this way.
Reader. You can read Common and any other language you learn due to your lineage or heritage.

White Wolf

While most mutts have been bred to get along with humans or other folk, you still cling to a wilder tenacity in the harsh wintery north claimed by Jotun. Your predatory instincts are sharper than most other mutts. As a white wolf, your main distinguishing feature is a much thicker white coat of fur well-suited to supernaturally cold biomes.

Natural Armor. Your AC is never lower than 11 + your proficiency bonus.
Pounce. If you hit a creature with your bite attack, you can use your bonus action to shove that creature.
Winter Stalker. You have proficiency in the Stealth skill. You have advantage on any Dexterity (Stealth) check made to hide or move quietly in snow, and on any Dexterity (Stealth) check made as part of a group check.
Cold Resistance. Extremely well-adapted to frigid climates, you have resistance to cold damage.
Extra Language. You can understand spoken Jotun. If you become able to speak or read Common, you also become able to speak or read Jotun.
