Urak Tuu (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
They say there's a race of people.. well not quite people more like things. From what I head they don't appear dangerous just .. how do I say .. a little grotesque. Faceless beings that can still eat and speak and see same as you or I and completely composed of earth.I presume that some dark forces may be involved so we must exercise caution if we are to continue to study them.
(Scholar Bregan Artus on the Urak Tuu)
Their bodies are completely formed of various types of stone dependent on the individual. Multiple, if not all, facial features are completely absent and replaced by cracks, changes in rock shape, or glowing spots of heated rock that simulate vague faces. they lack any gender related features as they are not naturally formed. Long arms that can go past their knees are extremely common but not always present. They can be made of any rock, from multilayered-tan sandstone to sharp black obsidian. No matter their level of strength they all have a very emaciated look, like the ashen souls left after a volcanic eruption.
The Urak Tuu were first created in small groups as the dissipation of dark magic seeped into the rock of underground caves under the region of Regalia. They wandered in the darkness with no goal, only knowing the inherent darkness flowing throughout themselves and vague remembrance of the outside world. At first they were all separated from each other, but as the use of darker arts became more common so too did their numbers and their communication with one another led them to the realization that they all had a different memory of an aspect of the surface. They used their knowledge to dig slowly to the surface. The society they found had since been lost to the freezing cold so they decided to split into smaller camps in hopes of finding their purpose for creation.
The Urak Tuu live in small camps outside of towns and in very arid places. The ones who live outside of towns are frequently abused by the townsfolk and guilds in the area. The people in the towns may fear them for their alien and monstrous appearance but they know that they are mostly peaceful creatures who are desperate for any show of belonging. Similarly, they end up in the service of powerful magical entities of various alignments for the same reason. Even if they themselves don't believe in the same things, they want assistance in understanding their own existence. Urak Tuu who live in more desolate environments have given up their quest for knowledge in exchange for a completely nomadic and self-sufficient existence. They travel with other Urak Tuu and lost travelers as they make their way across the world settling down temporarily to collect resources before returning to their nomadic existence. They eat through some sort of absorption process that causes the food to combust and speak audibly despite their lack of a mouth. Their natural understanding and speaking of infernal has made it easy to include tieflings among their ranks.
