Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: The base of this race gets +4 ASI already, and the subs each add +1 so that's +5 total. If that's not a red flag, then the aggregate power of 35+ base speed, natural armor of 15 base plus dex, and relentless endurance+ for full moon should say something. Then the other sub is just an outright suped up drow with no drawbacks.

True Moon Elf Traits[edit]

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity and Wisdom scores each increase by 2.
Age. Although moon elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. A moon elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 1000 years old.
Alignment. Elves love freedom, variety, and self-expression, so they lean strongly towards the gentler aspects of chaos. They value and protect others' freedom as well as their own, and are good more often than not.
Size. Moon elves range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 35 feet.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Fey Ancestry. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep.
Trance. You don't need to sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep. You can finish a long rest in 4 hours if you spend those hours in a trancelike meditation, during which you remain conscious. Whenever you finish this trance, you gain proficiency in one skill of your choice and with one Artisian's Tools of your choice, selected from the Player's Handbook. You magically acquire these proficiencies by drawing them from shared elven memory and the experiences of entities on the Astral Plane, and you retain them until you finish your next long rest.
Keen Senses. You gain proficiency in Perception skill.
Languages. Moon elves can speak, read and write Common and Elvish. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.
Subrace. Choose from Full Moon Elf or Crescent Moon Elf. The subraces of the Moon Elves are determined by the faction they were born into.

Full Moon Elf[edit]

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
Superior Movement. Your base walking speed is 40 feet.
Full Moon Protection. Due to the magical protection of the moon goddesses you have natural armor. When you aren’t wearing armor, your base AC is 15 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
Moonlight Endurance. When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead and move towards a direction up to your current speed without provoking opportunity attacks. You can’t use this trait again until you finish a long rest.
Elven Martial Training. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses a martial weapon such as the longsword, shortsword, scimitar, shortbow, and longbow.

Crescent Moon Elf[edit]

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.
Superior Darkvision. Your darkvision has a radius of 120 feet. Superior Darkvision works in magical darkness such as the one created using the darkness spell.
Full Crescent Protection. Due to the magical protection of the moon goddesses, you have natural armor. When you aren’t wearing armor, your base AC is 13 + your Intelligence modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
Elven Lunar Magic. The typical Lunar elf focuses more on their mind rather than their strength. You can add one cleric or druid spell to your existing list of prepared spells per spellcasting level as you level up. If you do not possess Spell Initiate or a related spellcasting ability you can instead cast each of these spells using Intelligence as your Spellcasting modifier. You can cast these spells once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.
Darkside of the Moon. You can use your bonus action to cast the darkness spell without requiring any material or verbal components once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a short rest. You can cast other spells in the same turn after casting the darkness spell this way.
