Tiont[edit]

Where the heads of giants fell to rest, so did the great and forgotten sons.

Physical Description[edit]

The tiont are a race of giant-kin. As such, they have imposing physical sizes that tower over that of most other creatures. Most tiont are never below 9 feet tall. Those who are become regarded as runts. Delineating their ancient nature, the tiont have skin that is thick and rocky-feeling to the touch. Their eyes are usually that of a grey color, notably like that of a piercing storm. Aside from their giant stature, their limb arrangement is fairly humanoid. They are also said to exert an air of nobility. It is hard to put one's finger on it. The tiont are not known for being particularly beautiful, but they have a sort of distant charm nonetheless that makes them still special even among other giants. Most tiont sport red or brown hair, though some rare ones of their kind shave their heads bald. The tiont do not care so much for fashion, preferring to wear mainly pants, leaving their chests bare, even for females.

History[edit]

Like all giant-kin, the tiont claim heritage one way or another from Annam and Othea. However, they claim a much more direct line than creatures like firbolgs. It is said that Annam and Othea had a son named Tiont, who was more kind and gentle than his brothers Grolantor, Vilmos, Surtr, and Thrym. During the Thousand Year War, he voiced his opposition to the bloodshed with the dragon race. As a result, he was cut down into pieces by his brothers for his father's honor. Othea grieved and Annam took pity on his son. While Tiont's name was erased from the giant pantheon's memory, the pieces of Tiont's body were fashioned with earth to create the tiont race. As a result of Tiont's gesture of dishonor, the tiont are not given any land or favor from Annam, making them effective exiles.

Society[edit]

The tiont are a fairly self-sufficient race. They live typically by cliffsides and escarpments in low areas, particularly those by the seas. Their communities consist of small groups, usually with no more than ten members at a time. The tiont groups are nomadic, roaming with the seasons and subsisting off both the land and their bodies for hard labor. Within these groups, their monies and resources are shared for mutual survival. Due to their exile, the tiont are also not present within the ordning established by Annam, nor do they care to follow it. The tiont are heavily fond of oral tradition and they spend many a night out in the empty roads telling stories around a fire. Due to their physique, they are often sought after as laborers or mercenaries.

Tiont Names[edit]

The tiont are not given a name at birth, save their patronymic title. Instead, they are awarded a title later in life after doing something significant or exhibiting some noteworthy characteristic. Many relatively "speak-able" tiont names are spoken in Giant, and most are not gender based.
