Tenet Weapon[edit]

This feature is optional and can be added onto the 3rd level progression of the paladin class. This is meant to be used with the rules of paladin tenets in the Grisaire setting, which makes paladin a more roleplaying-bound class, and so it gets an extra goodie :)

At 3rd level your faith evolving into an oath extends into your weapon, making it bound to your tenets as you are. Choose one nonmagical weapon you possess. It becomes your tenet weapon and gains the following effects:

  • You are proficient with it while you wield it. This weapon counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
  • When you use your tenet weapon for a smite, whether by your class feature or a spell, it increases the damage die by 1 level (d8->d10,eg.).
  • If your tenet weapon is not in your hand, you can summon it to your hand as a bonus action so long as it is in the same plane as you.
  • If your tenet weapon breaks, it can reform over the course of a short or long rest through a ritual you conduct that reinforces your faith and oath.

The tenet weapon ceases being your tenet weapon if you die, or if you break your paladin oath, after which it breaks and turns back into a normal weapon.
