"The damage is too high for a cantrip, and it scales."
Every 5e cantrip that deals damage scales at this rate. If we're talking specifically d8s, then:

• poison spray (d12)
• chill touch (d8 + rider)
• lightning lure (d8 + rider)
• frost bolt (d8 + rider)
• fire bolt (d10)
• eldritch blast (d10)
• shocking grasp (d8 + rider)
• toll the dead (d8 or d12; an unambiguously stronger version of this spell in all but the most niche of circumstances)
