Skills as an attack method[edit]

I'm not sure having skills as a primary method of attack is such a good idea, due to the fact that you can easily increase a skill by up to +30 just through a magical item, pre-epic. Thus, it's less stable than other attack methods (which are based primarily on ability scores) and more likely to get abused. Also, 12+int skill points seems a bit much--I mean, even the class that's supposed to be the "Jack of all Trades" and is int-based (Factotum) has less skill points than the Rogue. Thus, with the concentration on Int, you might consider dropping to 8+int or even 6+int --Ghostwheel 23:27, 24 July 2009 (MDT)

In addition, this class is pathetically weak in combat. I'm aware that you said in the description that it was weak in combat, but no character should ever be useless in battle (if they are, they're just a liability and not worth having around). Having skills to help you in battle only goes so far. I feel that the Combat Skills have potential, but seeing as how they comprise the only real combat ability I think it's not enough. Tumble could be so much (namely uncanny dodge, evasion, etc.) and Intimidate could function as a frightful presence (you're already kind of with me there but there's nothing between shaken and dead). Plus, a few of them don't have much bearing on a normal campaign. The ability to "discern method for a cave-in" doesn't seem very helpful. - TG Cid 06:32, 28 July 2009 (MDT)
A way to balance it is have things based on skill ranks, not skill checks. Skill ranks at least provide a good point of reference at each level. --Aarnott 06:50, 28 July 2009 (MDT)
Hmmm, I suppose you're right. Thanks, I'll continue working on it, taking your advice into consideration. And it's obviously not finished, so it's good you commented now, instead of upon it's completion. - Magnamune 16:49, 29 July 2009
unless you want people able to take epic bonus feats at level 1, you might wanna add a "must meet the prereq" line. otherwise any feat can be a bonus feat and you don't have to meet the requirements.--Name Violation 14:22, 13 November 2009 (MST)
I think the class might be improved if you were to lower the skills to 8+INT, remove some of the bonus feats, and raise the reflex save to Good. With 12+INT I could get 68 skill points at first level. (natural 18 +2 racial = 20 = +5 mod, 12+5 X 4=68). Other than those 3 things, I like the concept. I can't wait to play it.

Combat Skills[edit]

I think the Combat Skills description should be fleshed out some, because as it is written right now, it is too vague to be usable. I can't make heads or tails of it, really. My initial assumption is that you gain ALL of those abilities if you have those skills, in which case I would just disallow the class outright. --Zauber 22:14, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
