Talk:Great Helmet (5e Equipment)

So I understand that this helmet's effect with chain mail seems pointless with the existence of splint armor. I like the idea of the being able to buff your 16 AC to a 17 AC at any time at the expense of perception, which doesn't seem unbalanced. I thought this might add something interesting to armor builds that isn't superfluous and is a based a bit more in practicality. You have an extra, solid piece of armor that you can carry with you that you can don for an extra +1 or +2 AC while sacrificing perception. Not sure how this will effect gameplay but it seems alright. If you know of ways to make it better then please contribute. I want my stuff to make sense :) Vobria (talk) 01:53, 30 August 2016 (MDT)

I could also do with feedback on how partial armor in general is working in-game. Marasmusine (talk) 02:10, 30 August 2016 (MDT)
Well, what I've found through play testing is that it's quite easy for partial armor to render medium, and even heavy armor, redundant. For instance, a character with a Dex of 16 would have an AC of 15 while wearing studded leather. Throw on a piece of partial armor and next thing you know you're wearing chain mail. Since there's no limit to the number of pieces that you can wear, any character that's proficient with medium armor would never even need to look at chain or plate to get a huge AC. Perhaps we should nerf partial armor to where only one piece could be worn. Any more than one and it should count as heavy armor. I honestly like the idea but as of now it's so easily abused. This is also why I wanted to make a piece that could buff heavy armor. So heavy armor would remain relevant. Vobria (talk) 03:55, 30 August 2016 (MDT)
