Balancing[edit]

This spell, among other things that I missed or just do not write down here bc this list is too long anywany, can do:

  • Be used without concentration, when it is literally a summoning spell, and its effect are similar in idea to many other spells, which all require concentration.
  • is being cast in one action, half of summoning spells require a minute to cast, for they give you great power in form of action economy, for a price. This does not.
  • can always heal you to half your hit points maximum, whatever your hit point maximum is. As a wizard, for example. Not horribly reliable, but still.
  • Let you cast two spells, not cantrips, in one turn, which nothing can grant you, except for simulacrum, a 7th level spell, with huge amount of time, numerous restrictions, and of course costly components.
  • does not require any form of material components.
  • have fairly long duration, that gets longer.
  • let you teleport as a bonus action, normally requiring a spell slot and forbiding you from using spell other than a cantrip, with infinite range. Only by swapping places with your summon, but still.
  • not only can be used to heal, but saves you from harm when reduced to 0 hit points, (Death Ward, 4th level spell btw.)
  • Doubles your action economy, for the measly cost of 1 3rd level spell slot, and literally doubles it for some more.
  • Have a simulacrum, both cast this, now you have 4 guys blasting someone's else ass with a whole party's worth of spellcasting power, with one character.
  • Can be upcasted, granting truly terryfying power, never to be seen by the simulacrum, bc simulacrum have many written restrictions, this does not.
  • Nothing forbids your doppledanger from casting doppledanger.
  • Now you have up to 15(30 with simulacrum) casters blasting ass with spells, and you have around 4 times your hit points maximum in reserve, for the price of one spellslot.
  • can be casted by paladin, because why not. This sounds nothing like other paladin spells, neither fits the theme.
  • increases base stats of your summon with upcasting
  • many more

To conclude: this is simulacrum. Simulacrum, avalible too soon for too little of price, full of holes to abuse it beyond belief, and funnily, stronger than simulacrum. Not all spells need to be upcasted, some never should, like the simulacrum. Unfortunately, doppelganger is not ready to be used in play. It is inbalanced, and realistically, just badly made. This needs a total rework to be working well.--Cezaryx (talk) 02:34, 22 February 2022 (MST)
