Talk:Catkin (5e Race)

From D&D Wiki

I have some feedback with regards the subraces. For races I would prefer to see Advantages rather than Proficiencies. I see Advantage as being "natural talent", and let classes and backgrounds deal in Proficiency. Since Advantage is a bit better than Proficiency, it would apply in a conditional situation. Here's what I suggest:

  • Arctic: You gain advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks made in cold or mountainous regions (alternative: survival checks made to track creatures)
  • Desert: You gain advantage on checks made when using artisan's tools
  • Urban: You gain advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks when making a deal or contract
  • Woodland: You gain advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks in woodland. Marasmusine (talk) 14:43, 29 September 2014 (MDT)

I would recommend giving advantage in Acrobatics rather than proficiency. Also you should clarify talking to felines. Does this include felines that do not understand a language? IdesOfMarch (talk) 9:38, 26 April 2015 (ET)

I've revised my opinion on how Advantage is used since reading the DMG, please disregard my above commentsn and I'll think of something else. Marasmusine (talk) 09:54, 26 April 2015 (MDT)

Scruffer's Review[edit]

I love the race. It looks really fun.

The one thing you really should change is a wording - the Woodland Catkin's extra attack thing should say "as a bonus action", as it functions like the Monk's Martial Arts bit - if it doesn't say that then a Catkin Monk can make 3 1d6 attacks a round, which can kill a guy in flash. Unless you wanted it to work that way, because a monk cat could probably do that.

Also, I feel like the base race +2 Cha bonus should be a +2 Dex bonus instead, but then you couldn't really put the +1 Dex in the Desert Catkin subrace because if you did it'd be a ridiculous +3 Dex bonus overall, so I dunno how you'd work that, but it's just how I would have tried to make it.

Nice build though. (this race is actually part of the reason why I'm making sure my DND group knows that the Wiki's 5e stuff is usable in my campaign)

I've changed the woodland catkin's claws to say they are light weapons, that way they can use them with two weapon fighting (which apparently you can't with the base claws, not sure if this is intended or not) Marasmusine (talk) 00:50, 7 July 2015 (MDT)

Natural Thief. Advantage is given when the skill has limits to when it gets advantage. If you have advantage all of the time, I suggest making it proficiency with Stealth (athletics)checks. --Blackkirby73 (talk) 07:18, 6 May 2016 (MDT)
