Stoatlets are humanoid weasels of the river and short-tail variety. They are larger than normal weasels, and able to stand on their hind legs and walk like humans. On average, they are about the size of a human child or a dwarf. Their bodies are thin and furry, with a range of dark hues for their fur. They are very flexible in the water and can swim as well as fish. Their mouths are lined with sharp teeth and their whiskered faces are pretty much just like a weasel or otter's. Like humans, they wear clothes and have a surprising degree of civility and refinement about their attire.

History[edit]

Stoats are common creatures that have lived around the world in many varieties, though most sharing the same typical weasel-like properties. The anthropomorphous stoatlets are supposedly from Kara-Tur. Strange magic courses through the land there, which allows for creatures like the hengeyokai to exist, formed from sentient animals who have gained magical powers upon reaching old age. Stoatlets are known for their magic to be able to disguise themselves and walk among humans, playing tricks and begging for money. They have a love of human alcohol, which they have learned to trade for from civilizations.

Society[edit]

They commonly are found in wooded forest areas when they aren't out blending into human society. They frequent bars and wineries, where they will often masquerade as beggars or wealthy people, leaving fake money to pay for sake. In their own villages, they make a living as expert fishermen and practitioners of magic. Being highly spiritual, they often use their powers to commune with nature spirits as well as other yokai. They are not a high rung in the caste system of yokai, but they are well regarded for their sneaky and witty ways.

Stoatlet Names[edit]

Stoatlets name themselves after humans to better blend in. They use the Wa-an naming conventions, with slight embellishments.
