Song Dragon[edit]

Dragon

Song dragons resembled copper dragons in general shape, but they were more slender and possessed iridescent silver-blue scales. This made them bright and impressive in appearance.

Song dragons possess a unique alternative form, that of an attractive humanoid aged between 20 and 30 years old.

Racial Traits[edit]

Making a Song Dragon[edit]

Abilities: Charisma is a key stat for this class as spell casting abilities are based upon this stat and it will also help her to be able to perform adequately to maintain her disguise. Constitution is a great secondary stat to allow the Song Dragon to be able to last through combat and the save for her Breath Weapon is based on this stat. Dexterity is a final important stat because she will be taking more of a penalty to this ability as she grows. Also, all spells cast by Song Dragons are arcane so armor is not preferred, so their AC will benefit highly from this stat.

Races: Dragon, Though the alternate form can be any Humanoid.

Alignment: Any.

Starting Gold: 5d10 x 10 GP

Starting Age: d% + 30 years.

Table: The Song Dragon

Class Features[edit]

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Song Dragons are proficient with all simple weapons. They are not proficient with any type of armor or shield.

Spell-like Abilities: A Song Dragon casts arcane spells drawn from the Spell-like Ability spell list. She can cast any spell she knows without preparing it ahead of time. To learn or cast a spell-like ability, a Song Dragon must have a Charisma score equal to at least 10 + the spell-like ability level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a song dragons' spell-like ability is 10 + the spell level + the song dragon's Charisma modifier.

Dragon Traits: Dragons do not breathe, eat, and sleep. Darkvision 60 feet and low-light vision.

Bite: This is the primary attack that deals the indicated damage plus 1-1/2 times the dragon's Strength bonus. A dragon's bite attack has reach as if the creature were one size category larger.

Claws: These secondary attacks deal the indicated damage plus the dragon's Strength bonus.

Wings: The dragon can slam foes with its wings, even when flying. Wing attacks are secondary attacks that deal the indicated damage plus 1/2 the dragon's Strength bonus.

Tail Slap: The dragon can slap one foe each round with its tail. A tail slap is a secondary attack that deals the indicated damage plus 1-1/2 times the dragon's Strength bonus (this is an exception to the normal secondary attack rules).

Breath Weapon (Su): Using a breath weapon is a standard action. A dragon can use its breath weapon once every 1d4+1 rounds. A breath weapon always starts at an intersection adjacent to the dragon and extends in a direction of the dragon's choice. Those caught in the area of the Breath Weapon may make a Reflex save for half damage. Thee save DC is 10 + 1/2 the Song Dragon's HD + its Constitution modifier. A dragon can use its breath weapon when it is grappling or being grappled.

Young Dragon: This dragon size modifier is Medium. Damage is as follows: Bite: 1d8; 2 Claw: 1d6; 2 Wings: 1d4.

Rebuke Death (Sp): You can touch a creature as a standard action, healing it for 1d4 points of damage plus 1 for every Song Dragon level. You can only use this ability on a creature that is below 0 hit points, and on a creature that has been dead for 1 round or less. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.

Dragon Senses (Ex): Dragons have darkvision 120 feet and blindsense 60 feet. They see four times as well as a human in dim light and twice as well in normal light.

Sound Imitation (Ex): A Song Dragon can mimic any voice or sound she has heard by making a successful Bluff check against a listener's Sense Motive check. This is similar to the same ability Blue Dragons possess.

Juvenile Dragon: At 5th level, you become a Juvenile Song Dragon. This dragon size modifier is Large. Damage is as follows: Bite: 2d6; 2 Claw: 1d8; 2 Wings: 1d6; Tail Slap: 1d8.

Agile Feet (Su): As a free action, you gain increased mobility for 1 round. For the next round, you ignore all difficult terrain and do not take any penalties for moving through it. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 plus your Charisma modifier.

Copycat (Sp): You can create an illusory double of yourself as a move action. This double functions as a single Mirror Image and lasts for a number of rounds equal to your Song Dragon level, or until the illusory duplicate is dispelled or destroyed. You can have no more than one Copycat at a time. This ability does not stack with the Mirror Image spell. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to your Charisma modifier.

Healer's Blessing (Su): When you cast any of your Cure spells you are now healed as well for an amount equal to your Wisdom modifier.

Dimensional Hop (Sp): You can teleport up to 10 feet per Song Dragon level per day as a move action. This teleportation must be used in 5-foot increments and such movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity. You must have line of sight to your destination to use this ability. You can bring other willing creatures with you, but you must expend an equal amount of distance for each creature brought.

Spell Resistance (Ex): You gain spell resistance equal to 8 plus your Song Dragon Level.

Young Adult Dragon: At 10th level, you become a Young Adult Dragon. Your size modifier is Large. Damage is as follows: Bite: 2d6; 2 Claw: 1d8; 2 Wings: 1d6; Tail Slap: 1d8.

Tongues (Sp): A Song Dragon gains the ability to speak and understand the language of any intelligent creature, whether it is a racial tongue or a regional dialect. The Song Dragon can speak only one language at a time, although it may be able to understand several languages. Tongues does not enable the subject to speak with creatures who don’t speak.

Thundering Bite (Su): A Song Dragon's bite now makes a thundering crash whenever it attacks, dealing an additional 2d6 points of sonic damage.

True Seeing (Sp): A Song Dragon with True Seeing can see all things as they are. She can see through magical darkness, notices secret doors hidden by magic, see invisible creatures and objects, sees the exact locations of creatures or objects under blur or displacement effects, automatically sees through illusions, and perceives the original form of a polymorphed, shapechanged, or transmuted object or creature. Further, she can focus her vision as a standard action to see into the Ethereal Plane. True seeing, however, does not penetrate solid objects. It in no way confers X-ray vision or its equivalent. It does not negate concealment, including that caused by fog and the like. True seeing does not help the viewer see through mundane disguises, spot creatures who are simply hiding or notice secret doors hidden by mundane means.

Adult Dragon: At 15th level, you become an Adult Song Dragon. Your size modifier is now Huge. Damage is as follows: Bite: 2d8; 2 Claw: 2d6; 2 Wings: 1d8; Tail Slap: 2d6; Crush: 2d8.

Crush (Ex): A flying or jumping Huge or larger dragon can land on foes as a standard action, using its whole body to crush them. Crush attacks are effective only against opponents three or more size categories smaller than the dragon. A crush attack affects as many creatures as fit in the dragon's space. Creatures in the affected area must succeed at a Reflex save DC equal to 10 + 1/2 Song Dragon HD + Constitution modifier or be pinned, automatically taking bludgeoning damage during the next round unless the dragon moves off them. If the dragon chooses to maintain the pin, it must succeed at a grapple check as normal. Pinned foes take damage from the crush each round if they don't escape. A crush attack deals the indicated damage plus 1-1/2 times the dragon's Strength bonus.

Frightful Presence (Ex): A dragon's frightful presence has a range equal to 30 feet × the dragon's age category, but otherwise functions as detailed in the universal monster rules in the appendix.

Deadly Joke (Sp): Once per day, as a standard action, an adult song dragon can tell a joke that kills. This affects one target and functions as Power Word Kill. This is a language-dependent sonic effect.

Mature Adult Dragon: At 20th level you increase to become a Mature Adult Dragon. This dragon size modifier is Huge. Damage is as follows: Bite: 2d8; 2 Claw: 2d6; 2 Wings: 1d8; Tail Slap: 2d6; Crush: 2d8.

Campaign Information[edit]

Playing a Song Dragon[edit]

Religion: Typically this class would worship one of the two dragon gods, either Tiamat (Evil) or Bahamut (Good).

Other Classes: This class tends to be very secretive of their true identity. Most Song dragons tend to hide their true dragon traits attempting to pass off as a human Cleric or Sorcerer. Some will even go to great lengths faking to be an Oracle with some malady to prevent detection. Once they truly trust an individual they will slowly reveal themselves to their party or an individual player.

Combat: In combat song dragons will act as healers or aid the party by applying buffs or hindering enemies. Song dragons will only use dragon powers in extreme cases or where they cannot be observed by other members of the party.

Advancement: This class typically doesn't advance outside of the base monstrous class. If they do, they prefer sorcerer or cleric classes. Some will even become druids or bards.
