Shadow Fiend (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Fiends born from shadows and Dark magic.
Suited to Shadow hunter class with Adventurer background.
They have no faces usually wear hoods or masks to avoid causing panic and fear.
Unintentionally created by Necromancers unintentionally bringing back a soul when reanimating a corpse. With their bodies taken over by Dark Magic these souls have nowhere to go so they just hang around in shadows for centuries watching and absorbing enough magic until they create a spectral form from which they can move around in.
They do not Form societies rather they take dangerous jobs so they can pass on to the next life or take vengeance on those who summoned them to this plane of existence.
