Scavenger Drone (5e Creature)
From D&D Wiki
Small beast, unaligned
Saving Throws Strength, Constitution
Hive Minded: For every 3 Scavenger bugs of any kind within 60ft, this creature gains a +1 to hit.
Self-Sacrifice: This creature can use itself to add +1AC to the Scavenger of a higher tier it latches onto. This cannot be done on another Scavenger Drone.
Mandibular Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 2) slashing damage.
Latch. Grapple check: +2 to check, reach 5 ft., one target. Upon a success, this creature successfully latches itself onto a creature of size Medium or larger, slowing its movement based on its Strength. The default is a reduction of 10ft; this is reduced or increased by 5ft for each Strength modifier a creature has above or below 0, respectively.
Explode: Upon having its health reduced to 4 or less, this creature can choose to burst itself apart. Any creature within 15ft must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw. Any creatures within range receive 1d4 piercing damage upon a failure, or half as much on a success.
The Scavenger Drone is the lowest class of insect in a Scavenger swarm. Their thick shells mean that they're less susceptible to common blades than other Scavengers, but pointier weapons tend to completely obliterate their husks.
As drones, they primarily gather food and hive-building materials, but if provoked, they can still be deadly foes in numbers.
