Hemokinesis[edit]
You have discovered or learned the dark power of hemokinesis, allowing you to manipulate blood, be it others' or your own. Starting at 1st level, when you or another creature with blood takes slashing or piercing damage within 30 ft. of you, you gain a number of Blood Points (BP) equal to half (rounded up) of the hit points lost. You can have a total number of BP as shown in the Hemokinesis Limit column of the Scarlet Artist table. You lose all remaining BP when you finish a long rest. Undead such as zombies which have blood that has begun to rot are unaffected by this feature; rotted blood is not blood.
Lamb to the Slaughter[edit]
Starting at 1st level you gain an additional 4 maximum hit points. While wielding a weapon that deals slashing or piercing damage you can, as a bonus action, convert any number of your hit points into BP.
Additionally, if you would take damage from any source, you can spend BP to reduce the damage by an amount equal to the BP spent. You can do this a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining uses upon completing a long rest.
Spellcasting[edit]
Once a prospective bard, but without the talent to use their particular brand of magic, you have instead turned to dark rituals to twist the lifeforce inherent in blood into power. See Chapter 10 for the general rules of spellcasting and chapter 11 for the bard spell list.
- Cantrips
At 1st level you know 2 cantrips of your choice from the scarlet artist spell list. You learn additional scarlet artist cantrips of your choice at higher levels, as shown in the Cantrips Known column of the Scarlet Artist table.
- Spell Slots
The Scarlet Artist table shows your maximum number of spell slots you can have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You do not start with any spell slots available, and must instead create them from Blood Points as shown in the Blood to Magic table below. You can turn BP into a single spell slot of any level you have available on your turn (no action required), but cannot cast more than a single 7th, 8th, and 9th level spell using them, though you can still upcast using those slot levels. You do not regain spell slots, but keep any you have and regain the ability to cast 7th, 8th, and 9th level spells when you finish a long rest.
Spell Level | Point Cost |
---|---|
1st | 3 |
2nd | 5 |
3rd | 9 |
4th | 13 |
5th | 16 |
6th | 21 |
7th | 27 |
8th | 34 |
9th | 42 |
- Spells Known of 1st Level and Higher
You know 4 1st-level spells of your choice from the scarlet artist spell list.
The spells Known column of the Scarlet Artist table shows when you learn more scarlet artist spells of your choice. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots, as shown on the table. For instance, when you reach 3rd level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.
Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the scarlet artist spells you know and replace it with another spell from the scarlet artist spell list, which also must be of a level for which you have spell slots.
- Spellcasting Ability
Constitution is your spellcasting ability for your scarlet artist spells. Your magic is made of blood or the energy drawn from its loss, and is controlled by the rhythm of your heart. You use your Constitution whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Constitution modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a Scarlet Artist spell you cast, and when making an attack roll with one.
Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier
- Spellcasting Focus
Your heart and body are your spellcasting focus for your scarlet artist spells.
The Scarlet Arts[edit]
At 3rd level, you chose a Scarlet Art. Choose between scarlet song, crimson choreography, and vermillion vision, all detailed at the end of the class description. Your choice grants you features at 3rd level and again at 7th, 12th, and 17th levels.
Expertise[edit]
At 3rd level, choose two of your skill (or tool) proficiencies. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check that uses either of the chosen proficiencies.
At 10th level you can choose another two skill proficiencies to gain this benefit.
Ability Score Improvement[edit]
When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.
Blood Hound[edit]
Starting at 5th level the range of your hemokinesis has increased to 60 ft. Additionally, you have advantage on Wisdom (perception) and Wisdom (survival) checks to locate any creature with less than half their maximum hit points. This gives you a +5 passive perception bonus as normal when it applies.
Transfusion[edit]
Starting at 10th level your ability to drain the life force from blood for your spells can now be applied to yourself and those around you. As a reaction when a creature within 10 ft. of you is reduced to 0 hit points you can spend your own Scarlet Artist hit dice, rolling them and restoring an equal number of hit points to the target.
Class Features: - deal damage to creatures below half health on a failed con save. Gain full bp. - Drain ally hit dice to regain your own -
Scarlet Song[edit]
The scarlet song is music of the most dastardly kind. It is a song that pierces through almost all other noise, so high- and/or low-pitched that it causes listeners to fall apart at the seams, torn to pieces by their own sturdiness. You have studied this song and learned to sing it with your voice and your blood.
- Unravel
Starting at 3rd level, when you would cast a spell that deals a damage type other than slashing and that has a verbal component, you can spend a Scarlet Artist hit dice to change the damage type to be slashing. Spells that deal damage in this way only grant half as many (rounded up) BP as normal. Spells affected by this feature treat immunity to slashing damage as resistance instead.
- Distant Control
Starting at 7th level the range of Hemokinesis has increased to 120 ft. instead of 60 ft.
Starting at 12th level you
Crimson Choreography[edit]
<!-Introduce this subclass here->
- Puppet Dance
Starting at 3rd level, you can reach out as an action and attempt to seize control of the blood of a creature you are aware of within range of your hemokinesis. The target must make a Strength saving throw against your Scarlet Artist save DC, succeeding automatically if it has more current hit points than you have Blood Points, or if it has no blood (such as constructs or undead; minus a well-fed vampire of course). On a failed saving throw you lose BP equal to its current hit points and the target is restrained until the end of your next turn, or until it exits the range of your Hemokinesis, whichever comes first. While restrained in this way the creature's speed doesn't become 0 and still benefits from bonuses, but either its actions or its movement is chosen by you, with it choosing how to use the other. You can extend the duration of Puppet Dance by an additional round as an action on your turn, but your target gets to make a new save when you do so
- Full-Body Rhythm
Starting at 7th level, if a creature fails the initial saving throw for Puppet Dance by 5 or more you gain total and precise control over it. The creature can take only actions you choose, and doesn't do anything you don't allow it to do. During this time, you can also cause the creature to use a reaction, but this requires you to use your own reaction as well.
- Group Performance
Starting at 12th level, when you use Grasp Blood, you can select a number of targets equal to your Constitution modifier. The total hit points of all targets added together must still be equal to or below your current BP for the feature to work. If you instead use Grasp Blood on a single target and they succeed on the saving throw after rolling, you can expend up to your Constitution modifier Scarlet Artist hit dice and roll them. Decrease the target's roll result by a number equal to your total rolled.
Vermillion Vision[edit]
The vermillion vision is a blade technique which utilizes blood to create beautiful yet disturbing paintings capable of altering the body and mind of those who witness it.
- Sword Painter
Starting at 3rd level you gain proficiency in all simple and martial weapons, as well as medium armor. Additionally, when you deal slashing damage to a creature with a melee weapon, the BP you gain is not halved.
