Rod, very rare (major) (requires attunement by an artificer, sorcerer or wizard)

Rod Variations (this image is Public Domain)

This rod, often made of precious metals (typically brass, silver or gold), has two snakes of the same material intertwined on its shaft, and sometimes bears a pair of tiny metal wings sculpted on its top. A rod that boosts one's ability to create potions and brews, especially potions of healing. While you hold this rod, you are considered proficient in the alchemist's supplies, herbalism kit, and poisoner's kit. If you were already proficient in the alchemist's supplies, herbalism kit, or poisoner's kit, you add double your proficiency bonus instead of your normal proficiency bonus to checks made using those tools.

Arcane Brewer. While you hold this rod, you can brew any potion by spending half the cost in materials and half the time. If the potion requires you to know a particular spell in order to concoct it, you are considered to know that spell as long as you have a spell slot of the appropriate level to cast it.

Temporary Brews. As an action, you can spend your spell slots to craft potions. You need an empty vial to concoct this potion. A potion crafted by this property loses potency after 8 hours.

You can craft the following potions by using your spell slots: climbing, growth or healing (1st-level slot); mind reading or greater healing (2nd-level slot); invisibility, superior healing or water breathing (3rd-level slot); resistance (4th-level slot).

An alchemist artificer attuned to this rod can spend uses of its Experimental Elixir feature to craft any of these potions, regardless of slot requirement.

Empowered Healing. This rod has 10 charges, and regains 1d6 + 4 expended charges daily at dawn.

While holding this rod, you can use an action and expend 1 or more of its charges to empower a potion of healing you touch. The potion of healing empowered becomes a potion of healing of a superior type: healing to greater healing (2 charges), greater healing to superior healing (3 charges), superior healing to supreme healing (5 charges).

The empowerment vanishes after 10 minutes if the potion is not consumed.

Philosopher's Rod. As an action, a creature can make a DC 20 Strength check to break the rod open, revealing a cavity lined with a magical type of quicksilver. Doing so destroys the rod. This arcane metal can turn up to 100 pounds of lead per charge the rod had into gold. The quicksilver loses potency after 24 hours.

If this quicksilver is instead mixed with a potion of healing of any kind, it will create an oil of life, that acts as a true resurrection spell for any dead body it is sprinkled upon.
