Reconstructed[edit]
Every once in a while, someone with abundant knowledge and their heart in the right place tries to force a Revenant into existence. Those who force Revenants are usually mourning scientists who have lost a lover, a close friend, or a family member. Others just create these poor beings out of a sick curiosity. But by far the most interesting and challenging cases are those who do this to themselves. This, of course takes intense amounts of planning. The only instance of this to be known of by anyone across the several multiverses was done by a kenku who had already made much progress with animating bodies. The way he did it was by instating a protocol in his personal flesh golem to, upon his death, lay the body on a special table, latch down a set of cuffs on all of his limbs, flip a lever and shock the hell out of the body. This reset his pulse, set his brain back online, which only fully worked because of the aberrant parasite he allowed to live in his body, and put him back on his feet. The only problem with this procedure was that the kenku developed slight insanities as a result of his missing brain matter being accounted for by an eldritch being.
Thanks to all these variables, it is insanely hard to replicate the results and still be a full person, so it is not recommended to attempt reconstruction on one's self.
Universal Race Variant[edit]
This subrace does not quite work the same way as other subraces. It can be applied to any race, including those which don't normally have subraces. If it is applied to a race that does have subraces, you must still pick another subrace in addition to this one.
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
A Strange Type of Undead. As a Reconstructed being, you have the creature types Construct and Undead in addition to being a humanoid.
Living Construct. Even though you were constructed, you are a living creature. You are immune to disease. You do not need to eat, drink, or breathe, but you can ingest food and drink if you wish. Instead of sleeping, you enter an inactive state for 4 hours each day. You do not dream in this state; you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal.
Unnatural Vitality. When you drop to 0 hit points, you may choose to stay conscious instead of falling unconscious. If you do, you gain tempo rary hit points equal to your total character level. In this state, you may take an action or bonus action on your turn, but not both, and you make death saving throws at the end of your turn as usual. You can remain in this state until you fail your first death saving throw (at which point you fall unconscious and continue making death saving throws until you stabilize or regain additional hit points) or die outright to massive damage. You can't use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
Lightning Absorption. Whenever you are subjected to lightning damage, you take no damage and instead regain a number of hit points equal to the lightning damage dealt.
