Rassakar resemble walking raptors that are oddly colored. A standard rassakar stands at between 5'4" and 6'7". Their tail length ranges from 3-4 feet long. Their scaly skin comes in a wide variety of colors. Rassakar may also have stripes or patterns with secondary colors. Their teeth are an inch long, and razor-sharp. They have 5 strongly curved claws on their hands, with one being opposable. Their hind legs come equipped with a large, sickle-shaped claw 6 inches long along the outer rim on their big toe. These humanoid creatures slump over when standing and give off a caveman-esque look.

History[edit]

Rassakar were among one of the early races made by the creator race of sarrukh. The main differences between them and lizardfolk, which they are commonly mistaken for on a glance, is their saurian features from raptors. They had less of a bite and more of a claw. They formed their own tribal kingdoms within the steamy jungles they inhabited. These were initially biodomes where the sarrukh sequestered them, among other races, for observation. Among their domain, they mainly waged wars against each other's tribes. However, if foreign invaders were looking to take advantage of this, they would be sorely disappointed. Rassakar tribes would join together to overwhelm any who tried to enter their territories.

However, following the fall of the sarrukh, they were evicted from the constructed biodomes by the rise of new races. Pushed south, they migrated all the way to an archipelago where they found refuge on islands no man dared set foot, for it was inhabited by large dinosaur creatures. The islands were enchanted by a time spell which made them able to sustain prehistoric life. Here, the rassakar have remained and thrived to this day. They are not as powerful as the larger creatures on the isles, but they are certainly smarter and more numerous by the day. They prefer dealing with large clods rather than humans which are just as cunning.

Society[edit]

The southern isles of Raz’Ssik are where the major population of rassakar lives. When they first came, they named it after the sarrukh general which supposedly sired their race. As they dominated the archipelago, people adopted their name for it. This jungle island chain is inhabited by many dangerous prehistoric creatures and vegetation not found anywhere else in the world. The rassakar make tribal huts and tree houses there, where they hide and ambush prey and predator alike. They live in tribes, centered around a main and three lesser chieftains. Like before, rassakar often battle each other's tribes, keeping within their own race. However, with the rise of new threats in the Age of Humans, they are warier than ever of foreigners.

Personality[edit]

These tribalistic rassakar tend to be antisocial towards other races, and very primal in their ways of thinking. They work for the tribe or those of close relation to them and will fight to the death for a tribe member or someone they have taken a liking to. It is considered the greatest disgrace to be selfish, as no one is an island. They greatly value community amongst themselves and try to express this through material connections. As such they have developed a tradition of passing down weapons to younger tribe members. In addition to being very insulated, rassakar are curious about the natural world around them. This can often lead to trouble in the event of poisonous plants and deadly catches in unpredictable environments.

Interactions[edit]

Rassakar rarely leave their island chain and try not to speak to those not of their race, even visitors. It gets harder as they are forced to open up to trade and tourism in the isles to prevent wars. They do occasionally meet and grow sentiment towards those of other races, particularly those which share traits with them. For example, one of the islands is renowned for being a site of trysts between visiting dragonborn and rassakar. Their offspring are called draskarians. Rassakar obviously also find mates with lizardfolk and even yuan-ti. They are very wary of humans and elves, however, finding the former a threat and the latter snobs. Most other races tend to avoid conversation with rassakar due to their rarity on the mainland as well as their bad social skills.

Religion[edit]

Rassakar offer gifts from the fruits of their hunts and forages to their main deity, Rassa, god of lightning. Rassa is seen as the first strike of lightning in a storm where bolts rain down from the heavens. Rassakar interpret themselves to be the numerous bolts which rain upon enemies, following the wrath of their god. It is said he bestows speed and power to those he deems worthy through bravery in battle. After a victory, it is customary to honor Rassa first before dividing any spoils. The rassakar name is said to mean "Rassa's warriors," showing their identification with the god. They are aware of their creators being the sarrukh. However, they also believe the sarrukh abandoned them, and it was only be the wrath of Rassa upon their enemies that they survived to find their new home.

Rassakar Names[edit]

Rassakar have two names: a tribe name, and a true name. They use their tribal name for everything in everyday life, as far as being addressed, while the true name is only given to their mate or very close friends. Knowing the true name of a rassakar is the highest honor that one can receive. Tribal names are also family names. People within a tribe, therefore, use nicknames to differentiate each other. These nicknames are simplistic and describe a person's looks or habits.
