Parrotfolk[edit]

Oy! My firend, wait! Uh, I saw this shiny on your belt, and I gotta say, wasn't hard to see it, it just spins your eyes in it's direction. Say, twenty gold coins will make your grief of parting with it go away? Cause' I'd be willing to give that much for it.
—Parrotfolk street vendor

Physical Description[edit]

Abundantly colourful, parrotfolk are a sigth to behold. No courtly lady or eccentric noble can outdress the natural visage of any parrotfolk, which usually is even further enchanced by some scarce clothing, and a lot of trinkets and jewellery adorning their body. Both male and female dress to impress, which is a given for them. Naturally evolved from their smaller cousins they traded their long wings, and therefore flight, for additional pair of appendages, allowing for far better tool use. Their fingers are tipped with long, but not sharp claws, allowing them great deal in detailed work, and paired with their legs allow quite easy climbing. The wings of parrotfolk do not offer enough force to actually fly, but are mainly used to glide.

History[edit]

Old jungles have myriad of inhabitants, one of which are the parrotfolks. Their legends say that their smaller, bestial cousins worked with their heads, using basic tools and forming small communities. But one day a parrot with two hands was born, allowing for far greater ability to use and craft tools. From that day onward, "handed" parrots grew in size and intelligence, finally forming what is known as parrotfolks. And their smaller cousins accompanied them along the way, one helping the other, living together and inseparrably bonding on wild, magical level.

Society[edit]

Parrotfolks live in communities in jungles, usually atop treehouses which they build. Sometimes bigger groups can band together, creating cities, with many stone ziggurats piercing the green line of trees. Their language is very fast and depends on frequent changes of pitch, being similar to chirping of various birds. Communities resemble tribes, where elder make decisions on behalf of everyone. Parrotfolk do all kinds of jobs, but excel at crafting and trade, bartering for resources, food or minerals and gems. They excell in selling their labour as a mediators, a courtesy of their natural proficiency with languages and very alive and mostly pacifistic tendencies.

Each parrotfolk have magical connection to one parrot, which manifests at birth. Those two are inseparable companions, and if the parrot is ever killed the parrotfolk can perform a short magical ritual to call his companion back. Parrotfolks mate for life, and only if their companion parrots do so as well.

Parrotfolks name their children with a sound, simple or more elaborate, which they find interesting.
