Okeanos[edit]

Okeanos are aloof guardians of the coastal forests, studying the arts in their many forms for the duration of their long lives. Okeanos present a very unique perspective in the savage world on Orion. They are the only race that can possibly make time for their arts and way of life in a wild and dangerous world.

Okeanos are usually abreviated 'Oak' to mimmick the first sound of their name and the natural environment they choose to live in.

Personality[edit]

Okeanos are easy going and tolerant. They are always ready to accept new peoples and have a nature about them that makes them vary comforting to others around them. However at the same time they can also be rather haughty because of their incredible life span and greater view on the world. They enjoy philosophical discussions that present a new way of looking at things. Okeanos also have a great respect for nature and the natural world. They show love to every creature that lives there, and hate for those who try to control them. The Okeanos, while in actuality much more advanced and 'civilized' than the other races, may often seem just as unruly because of the way they blend with nature. They will defend their natural homes and the world around them with a vehement anger, not allowing anything to do it harm. They also have an incredible fascination of the ocean, it being the place they came from and the place they love. Okeanos are forever torn by their will to live on the ocean, and want to live in the forests.

Their time is spent creating and sharing what they have created. Nature is often depicted in their art. Families usually stick to one medium and develop unique tools to create new results. However the arts of drawing or sculpting, or depicting the world through pictures is not at all exclusive. Many practice arts that do not fall into these categories. Some practice the martial arts, whether they be with fist or with sword. Others may practice dance or theatrical moves. Many do practice the fine arts, but even then, not so much drawing. Often Okeanos are more fascinated with their love for music then depiction through portraits.

Okeanos rarely have children, despite finding a life partner around age 75. This is because many find that having children limits them, or restricts their experiences. However others may take an opposite view, saying that children are the experience. However, whichever side they are on, Okeanos will almost never have more than one child.

Physical Description[edit]

Okeanos are generally around 5 to 6 feet tall and weigh approximately 100 pounds. They appear slight and nimble but are strong and toned from their martial arts training. Their fingers are long and elegant. Their hair is usually light in color but there have been some with black and red. Their eyes are almost always a deep, dark brown.

They tend to wear clothing of an intricate material but basic cut that is elaborately adorned. The weave of the material is the mode of their creativity. Intricate designs and textures are incorporated in the cloth; visually and tactilely conveying an event or scene. Additional jewels and such may be attached for emphasis.

Relations[edit]

They get along well with most races. However, due to their long lives their deepest relationships are with each other. They refrain from formal alliances and only join in mass conflict when necessary. They will, however, strongly oppose those who disrespect nature.

Alignment[edit]

Okeanos tend to be lawful neutral as they have learned that following certain codes and rules alleviate misunderstandings that can lead to rifts. Bad feelings can really build over 1200 years. As well, the difference between "good" and "bad" changes when circumstances change as the winner of conflicts write the history. They have good relations with water dwelling creatures such as mermen, dolphins and water elves.

Lands[edit]

Okeanos live in coastal areas, usually along large seas and oceans. Occasionally there will be settlements along rivers. Rarely, individuals may be found in towns and cities on quests for exotic items. They travel the water in search of inspiration and materials. They love the water and it is not unusual for them to choose to swim along side the boat as they travel.

Religion[edit]

Orion allows for very few true religious practices due to the fact that Orion is the only god, and he has never truly shown himself. However, the Okeanos have created many representations of their 'creator force'. Their devotions are primarily through song and dance. They can read the signs of changing weather and seasons and attribute these to the creator's rhythm.

Language[edit]

Okeanos speak Common and Sylvan. It is not unusual for a group to create new words to describe particular aspects of their art and lives. Their speech is colorful and rich in adjectives. These new words are quickly incorporated into songs, poems an written forms. Their evolving language can make it difficult for outsiders to understand them.

Names[edit]

Okeanos's names are colorful and often describe an inspirational scene. As each word is loaded with meaning these scenes would be contained in 3 or 4 words which would be spoken as one name. Sometimes names contain symbols and sound units as well. A child would not carry their family's name but it may be ascertained from their name by knowing events and history of the group.
