Nautolan (5e Race)

|From the Star Wars Encyclopedia|
Nautolans appear as colorful humanoids with sleek, hairless, water-proof skin. They were amphibious, capable of breathing both air and water with gills situated on their head. Their bodies are notably hardy, with strong physique. Even an elderly or prepubescent nautolan exhibits strength matched with that of an adult human. Their skin is deceptively scaly, but it is actually like a cross between that of a fish and human skin. These skins could range widely in color from green, blue, gray, purple, orange, or even yellow. They have large, dark eyes, which are a special pair of optics achieved through living in the dark depths of oceans. Through these eyes, they could spot details even in lightless abysses. Their trademark trait is a head of tendrils that resemble thick dreadlocks for hair. These tendrils are actually able to sense chemicals. They are used for non-verbal communications between nautolans, who secrete pheromones that can be perceived with these tentacles, allowing them to understand moods of others.
The original nautolans lived in simple caves on the ocean floor of their watery planet, Glee Anselm. As they grew more advanced, they came to build more cities that spanned the ocean floors. They are one of the two only sentient races on the planet, and they initially lived in peace. The other sentient race, the anselmi, were a greedy bunch who grew jealous of the nautolans. The anselmi lost their amphibious qualities and could only survive on the limited landmasses on the planet. They tried to takeover shallow tracts of the sea and push out the nautolans. The nautolans, alarmed, tried to reason with their belligerent neighbors and warned of the ocean's rage at being controlled. True enough, when the anselmi began to dam the ocean, great waves crashed into their cities and obliterated their civilizations in a single fell swoop. The nautolans lived peacefully after the retreat of the anselmi, and they have since spread to other parts of the galaxy.
Nautolans are ruled by a monarchy. This includes single rules by either a king or queen. They are known as a peaceful race, and disliked unnecessary violence. When forced to fight, they are skilled warriors. They worship and revered an entity known as the Ocean Spirit. This deific being is said to maintain the balance of nature on Glee Anselm. It was the same spirit which wiped out most of the anselmi's cities. As such, nautolans take heed to not be like their unfortunate neighbors. Nautolan society is prosperous, and they believe in sharing this prosperity. They are hospitable and generous in sharing their resources with others. While they can survive on land, nautolan cities are exclusively underwater, as that is where they are most comfortable.
The nautolans have their own language, Nautila. This nonverbal language involves the use of their pheromones and tendril receptors to communicate. These pheromones could be used to convey complex ideas, from full sentences to detailed information like map coordinates.
Names for nautolans are two-fold. Their names are generally not very complicated, rarely broaching three syllables. They gain the second half of their name upon adolescence, having only one word names before.
