Lesser Colddrake (5e Creature)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search
Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: Hit point calculation is incorrect. If this is a huge creature with Con 10, it would be 2d12 + 0. Therefore either HD needs increasing to meet the desired hp, or the CR needs changing. As is, the CR should be 2 rather than 1. The reaction triggers are not explained, and the legendary actions are a bit lazy, being merely copies of the normal actions. The whole design is a bit weird.

Frozen System. When a colddrake dies, it immediately shatters. Anyone within 25 ft. of it must succeed on a DC 11 Dexterity saving throw or take 1d4+1 piecing damage.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The drake makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its claws.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (2d4+1) piercing damage.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d8+1) slashing damage.

Frost Breath. The drake exhales a 30-foot long line of frost that is 5 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 11 Dexterity saving throw, taking 7 (4d4-2) cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage (rounded up) on a successful one.

LEGENDARY ACTIONS

The lesser colddrake can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The lesser colddrake regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Claw. Melee Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.

Lesser colddrakes are one of three types of colddrakes, the other two being greater colddrakes and greatest colddrakes. They are not as powerful as other drakes, but they can hold their own in a fight.

Subspecies. There are four subspecies of lesser colddrakes: shiverdrakes, chilldrakes, frostdrakes, and sleetdrakes. They are distinguished by the number of hit points they have, and their subspecies determines their armor class (use the table below). There is no particular difference between each type of lesser colddrake, and the only purpose of each subspecies is for social reasons and to find their AC.

Hit Points Subspecies AC
22-34 Shiverdrake 11
35-41 Chilldrake 12
42-47 Frostdrake 12
48-60 Sleetdrake 13
