Kerbal[edit]

Asteroids. Awesome to look at and great to have around; not so much when one lands on your house. Today we're going to learn how to keep that from happening. As anyone who has played Galaxy Intruders for more than ten minutes can tell you, it's not about firing at where they are, it's about aiming at where they're going to be.
—Gene Kerman, flight instructor

Physical Description[edit]

300px-Happy_kerbal.jpg

Kerbals are little green alien humanoids that have massive heads with respect to their bodies, with roughly half of their total volume accounted for the head. Their eyes protrude from their heads significantly, as do their corneas from the eyes. These are posited in slight opposite directions from each other on the sides of their conical head. Kerbals appear to either lack any irises, or their eyes are perfectly black in color. They also possess no eyelids and, as a result, do not blink. They also have no noses.

Kerbals appear to have two large teeth that span the length of their gums, one on the mandible and one on the skull. Their teeth are quite human looking. Their skin hues appear to range from light green to pale green, if they range at all. Although kerbals appear mostly hairless, they have notable hair growth occurring on the top of their heads. The great kerbal scientist Wernher von Kerman can even be seen to have a mustache.

History[edit]

Kerbals come from the minor planet Kerbin, in a distant solar system far from any of the worlds known. They are, in essence, aliens to most other worlds. They occupy themselves with technological fancies, particularly concerning space travel. They desire to see beyond their own world and conquer space. This has led to them establishing colonies on many small and uninhabited planets. So far, they are best described as naive, not knowing the horrors which lie in the Astral Sea.

Society[edit]

Kerbals are ruled in a technocratic system, with most of their resources going towards science and education. They believe that exploration required such manpower, and thus investment is crucial. This has resulted in them having a rather advanced society, with a variety of engines powering all sorts of vehicles and other technologies. This shields them from energy shortages and surges, effectively. Kerbals are all also able to use technology to a rudimentary degree. Even oldsters or toddlers know how to use a computer. Their complete investment in their communal goals of science has left them as one large entity, rather than with private familial units. Instead, kerbals are seen to hold roles similar to that of how a factory or spaceship operates with a crew. They are specialized in certain roles that hum like a well-tuned machine when put in motion.

Kerbal Names[edit]

Kerbals have a wide variety of first names, but every Kerbal shares the surname of Kerman. The rationale behind this is unclear, but it is believed to show a communal race.
