History[edit]

Long ago, the people of tropical islands were under attack from an expanding civilization. The prayed to their pantheon of gods to empower them with great strength, knowledge, and power to protect their lands. As the colonizers came towards their archipelago, a mighty storm came through knocking many men off of their ships. They reached land fall on an island the appeared to be abandoned. Through out the night, the men heard many different sounds and screeches in the jungle. Waking in the morning, the men saw that they had been ambushed in the middle of the night losing half of the remaining men. Tents and make shift shelters were burnt to the ground and footprints lead into the jungle. Returning to their ship to flee, they saw only a few of these people. Many were nearly double the size of the colonizers, almost twice as broad in the chest too. With their weapons drawn they attempted to fight back for their ship. The people evaded their attacks and leapt off of the ship. The men were startled by their passive nature, only to hear in the back of their minds as they sailed away, "Do not return to our children’s isles. This is the home of the Fanau a Atua".

Society[edit]

Islanders may live in close-knit communities, sharing resources and responsibilities. The harsh conditions of island life could encourage cooperation for survival. Islanders might be skilled sailors and fishermen, relying heavily on the sea for sustenance and trade. They may have advanced navigation techniques and boat-building skills. Living on an island demands resourcefulness. Islanders could have expertise in crafting tools, shelters, and clothing from natural materials found on their islands. Despite their isolation, islander societies can be culturally diverse. Each island or group of islands may have distinct traditions, languages, and customs. Young islanders may undergo a rite of passage that involves sailing to a distant island or facing a specific challenge to prove their worth and resilience. Islanders may also engage in extensive trade networks, exchanging unique resources and goods with neighboring islands or coastal regions.
