Ionians[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

The average ionian is a humanoid figure that stands from 6'5" to 7'0". They are extremely pale skinned and have no body hair except for on their head. The color of their hair varies from a range between black and white, not very colorful. Their eye colors are generally in the warm colors, red, yellow, and orange, but on rare occasions they can have purple and pink eyes. Ionians are far leaner than the average human, allowing them to preform swift and graceful acts. They have ears that are similar to humans but they are more elongated and rounded. They have fairly normal noses similar to humans only a bit more pointy. Ionian skulls are a little larger than an average human's skull, this is due to the immense psionic potential in all Ionians. Psionic abilities generally improve over the years for an ionian, but during The Gilded Age, if one was wealthy enough or have high status with in the military, they could get psionic implants to boost the growth of psionic power.

History[edit]

In the beginning, there was strife and blood. Many warring tribes and clans fought for resources and land that was Io. One day, a meteor crash landed on the planet, all feared it was the wrath of the gods, all but one: A war chief by the name of Taux Dark. He believed it was a gift. Under shroud of darkness, he gathered his greatest of warriors and claimed the meteor for his clan. They found a weak spot on the rock and jammed a metal pick into it. After a few more swings, the rock wall broke wide open. The inside was not rock at all, it was metal! It hosted a large amount of strange artifacts. First Taux stepped in, and then two other ionians. At the far corner of the room, suspended in mid air was a gem. As Taux got closer he felt it's power. He had heard of powerful men that could use their mind as a weapon, and he had felt their power before. But this gem was far more powerful. He took caution and grabbed the gem. As he grabbed it, it's power flowed through his body. He knew what had to be done. He ordered his men to grab all of the artifacts and return to home. After years of secret testing, Taux's elite force had learned how to use the artifacts of destruction. This power made them the most powerful force on all of Io. Soon they had set out to unite the ionians. Some joined, but for those who didn't, they were wiped out by men clad in unbreakable shining armor and powerful lightning cannons. The unification of Io was no easy task, but with the help of the artifacts of destruction, they wielded godlike power. These legendary warriors came to be known as The Children of Io. There was twenty original Children of Io. Soon The Ionian Republic began an age of technological development, named The Gilded Age.

After many small wars fought to liberate the neighboring systems from their oppressors, mainly slavers or fanatic dictators, the original number of The Children of Io had shrunk to only four members, Karon Zeg, Qrex Vorta, Jamir Xalin, and Shilin Kasla. These four survivors of a massive military disaster named “The Bloody Hour” would go on to retire and pass their weapons and armor to their eldest sons and daughters to carry on the legacy as the King’s most elite guard. The last four Children of Io would found the four Houses of Io, House of Zeg, House of Vorta, House of Xalin, and House of Kasla. Each house has their own preferred style of war, colors, and even opinions. House of Zeg prefers shock tactics, orbital bombardments, and naval combat. Blue and black are House of Zeg's colors. House of Zeg prefers a more direct approach to most situations. House of Vorta prefers long-range combat, artillery barrages, and Special Ops. House of Vorta's colors are black and green. House of Vorta tends to try and stay out of a situation, instead they prefer to watch from afar. House of Xalin tends to operate with aliens, mostly Spidorian hunter packs, alongside Ionian units. They prefer co-species units, sieges, and far off, alien worlds. The colors of House Xalin consist of dark purple and black. They are generally the majority of colonists on a colony ship. And finally, House of Kasla, they tend to field Ionians that have been severely technologically modified, Ionian Mechanized Commandos or I.M.C.s. House of Kasla's colors are black and grey. They are more solitary then the other houses, preferring to tinker with tech all day than anything else. Each house has their own flag, usually flown just under The Ionian Republic flag.

Society[edit]

Ionian society is very honor based. If you go against your word that you made with an ionian, they will forever see you as untrustworthy and dishonest. Ionians may even shun another ionian if he or she has broken a promise. Ionians tend to like other races, even if that race is their enemy, they don't go after the innocent civilians of their enemy. They prefer to fight the enemy not civilians. Ionians are actually really friendly with other races, even when meeting new races they tend to try a diplomatic approach, but they are not afraid to fight a new race if diplomacy is not an option. Though they are friendly some, ionians think of themselves as a better race than most, mainly ones that have a lower tech level than then. Ionians with this mentality generally feel pity and wish to enlighten them with gifts of technology and even go as far as conquest for the sake of progress.
